you can't build a team through free agency. lou hasn't drafted that well in the past 3-4 years, but I understand the deal he made at the draft. I can't see this team in the playoffs, Jagr will get dealt at deadline - kovey27
Totally. Have a nice day Rocket. |

hard to draft well when your not in the top of the draft, hoping people slide down, and find sleepers
severson was a very good draft pick |

I was looking at some of the free agents left and I'd be interested in Peter Mueller. He's 25 and would come cheap, compared to trading for Hemsky and having him injured. I think he'd fit in nicely. But I doubt Lou is looking outside the organization right now unless it's a trade. |

Playoffs? Are you kidding me? No Parise, and the Devils were horrible last season. And that was with Kovy missing a lot of games due to injury. Sorry but Ryder and Clowe do not equal Kovy. Will be a lottery pick team. And won't even have a 1st round pick lol how sad. - Smurfs-A-Joke
you realize that when brodeur went down we lost pretty much every game, which coincided with kovy going down, now we have schneider so if either one falters we have another goalie to take their place
its not all about names when you play a good system |

The top nine pick this year featured some very good players. |

Yea but because we didn't have the 3rd overall pick and didn't get Galchynuk we haven't drafted well. |

And we used that to fill a hole for now and the longtime future we didn't get a prospect but it went to a very good use |

Exactly, we were the BEST team in the East when Brodeur went down. Hedberg couldn't keep us afloat and Deboer was to stubborn to try Kinkaid or Frazee. Then, Kovy went down and we outplayed almost every team we played, but couldn't score. |

If I was GM I would have drafted a forward and worry about the goalie next year. You can always find a decent goalie. Top forward prospects can be tough to find. Also Schneider has only 2 years left. What if he leaves right when the player you could have picked starts becoming a force. |

But, every goalie in free agency next year is old and not capable of handling a big role anymore, Miller, Bryz, and Kipp to name a few, or are not that good. Schneider is going into the prime of his career. For only giving up a pick for him is worth it, for now. |

I hope we're the first team in professional hockey to score zero goals in a season. This team surely looks capable of it. |

When you can get, statistically, one of the best goalies in the league for the past few seasons and add him for the 9th overall pick straight up, you take that deal |

um, that's ridiculous. we should obviously do nothing every season and let the team degenerate into dust. |

Franchise goalies are harder to find imo
Its a risk but one that's more than worth it and he knows he will be the number 1 goalie
devils have been built from goal out and its worked out pretty well |

There better be a clause in Jagr's contract in case that happens |

What? Your telling me the islanders style of draft high every year and let the goaltending situation figure itself out doesn't work in the long run? They will find their franchise goalie eventually or something. I'm sure Philly will too. |

The Devils have to abandon the 1st-2nd-3rd-4th line concept because they don't have a team built to deploy an offense like that this season. They need to score by committee, kind of what teams like Phoenix, Nashville, Boston, and St. Louis have done over the past few years. They have a team whose top-six make up two quality second lines and a bottom six that make up two third lines when you think about it...

just as devils fans dont want to see anymore teams saying theyll be in the bottom 5, its kinda silly seeing devils fans talk about all the money they have for free agency next year. unless the devils pull off an outstanding season, good luck signing anybody worth bringing in. players wont wantt o come with kovy just leaving, marty retiring, parise gone. theres no incentive to come play for jersey. jagr is a 1 year deal. so you would have to go to a star player and try to convince him to come sign and play for jersey by saying ?we have a goalie who hasnt played a full regular season yet and you can come play with henrique, ryder and clowe? that wouldnt be enuf for me to sign over another, contending team. dont take this the wrong way, i try to post reasonable comments here and actually use logic. im not saying they will finish bottom 5, i dont see a playoff birth happening this year. but i dont think fans can bank on signing some big names just because of the cap space they have with kovy leaving. the cap space is nice, but if a player has a choice between the devils and a contending team, i think theyll choose the contending team if even for a few million less. using "we are one of the better defensive teams in the league which will produce offense" isnt as effective as it used to be with the game so much relying on offense now, and with your hall of fame goalie just about ready to hang up the skates.guys want to win a cup, if it was about money theyd bolt and go to the khl.
dont worry tho...you will still be better than edmonton just like at least 25 other teams. lol oilers arent going anywhere with dubnyk in net haha |
