great now since you said the devils can be in the playoffs we will have herds of isles fans and some ranger fans come in and say not a chance, and then a buffalo fan or 2 saying too old and slow top 5 pick oh wait
lou always finds ways to make sure the devils are competitive and for the most part always in the playoffs, i have a feeling that he knows what he is doing and will "surprise" some |

Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils Notes: Henrique, Free Agency And Playoffs - Todd.Cordell
This team has one of if not the worst top nine in the league. It's very old and will finish near the bottom which sucks because you don't even get the pick.
I still think Hemskey is a player this team could use, he has been pushed to the back burner the last few years as the stack of high draft pick forwards take the minutes and lime lite. He needs a team to want him, when this happens, and it will I predict he will be in the top 25 in scoring. He has been on a terrible team these last 5 years, people also forget the only reason the Oilers had the run in 2006 was because he scored a last second goal that got them into the play offs. |

and thats why they play the game on the ice, not on paper
while it may not look sexy or anything, the devils will still most likely be effective by using their system and a team game rather than having 1 or 2 individuals trying to do it all |

How do we have one of the worst top 9's in the league? All your superstars are working wonders for you guys. There have been plenty of teams worse offensively then this team make the play offs like Nashville, Phoenix have iced a few of those teams. You are completely ignorant to say we are in the bottom before even seeing this team play a single game. I would put my money on us finishing higher then the super kids. The Oil might have skill but they are not remotely difficult to play against and your banking on the fact that a good AHL coach comes in and instantly creates miracles. |

I know right this is what the 3rd year in a row the Oil are supposed to make the post season? I doubt they do. At least we have a system and player who will make it not fun to play against the Oil on the other hand have nothing but skill probably a worse D then us and easily worse goaltending but they should totally be telling us how bad we are. |

Signing Ryder and Jagr was a better option than giving assets for Hemsky. And about the Devils finishing in the bottom, I don't buy it. |

The oilers have a lot of skill and a young core which is good, but they need physicality. If the oilers play a very good defensive team they'll have a hard time. It would never shock me if the devils make the playoffs, but this year I really think they will have a hard time. Either way, I think the devils finish ahead of the oilers. |

That's a totally reasonable thing to say though. I am noting saying we will make it but I certainly think we have the ability and pieces to make the playoffs and are not a bottom 5 team. |

Good write up. Jagr will definitely help Henrique. Jagr may not score as much but he can still carry the puck from end to end. He will help take much of the pressure off of Henrique if they play on the same line.
I think the Kovalchuk thing is a blessing in disguise. He's not a guy that makes the team that much better. The Devils will be competitive because they'll get back to their normal defensive team effort.
They'll need to find some scoring and have a good PP this year to offset their inability to produce 5 on 5.
They'll be in the playoff hunt, but they're in a tough division now. Rangers, Pens, Flyers, Caps, Isles should all be in the mix. I see them finishing between 7-10 for the conference.
People who are writing them off are complete idiots. Especially Oiler fans who wish they had an organization close to what the Devils have. |

Playoffs? Are you kidding me? No Parise, and the Devils were horrible last season. And that was with Kovy missing a lot of games due to injury. Sorry but Ryder and Clowe do not equal Kovy. Will be a lottery pick team. And won't even have a 1st round pick lol how sad. |

you can't build a team through free agency. lou hasn't drafted that well in the past 3-4 years, but I understand the deal he made at the draft. I can't see this team in the playoffs, Jagr will get dealt at deadline |

Just wait. Look at the spending money the Devils have on top of the amazing market for next year. All things considered, including Reid Boucher, the Devils could be contenders VERY soon. |
