If there is anything to this rumour, that could mean that the Oil are concerned about how soon the Nuge will be ready to play. I'd prefer that they give Lander the chance on the top 2 lines, but they might not think he can handle that duty yet. The core is young and we won't know just how well Lander is progressing unless he gets a good chance on an offensive line. Rather than Grabo, I'd like to have some beef on the top lines, but that's not an easy find. Guys like Bickel & even Brouwer didn't show much in their early years but got better as they got older & had more experience. Doubt that Eager could become a player like them, but the Oil should be searching hard for guys like that who have size, speed and potential upside who can support our talented, smallish young guns.
- haymac

Speed is going to be the keyword. THe oilers top six is very fast and i'm not sure lander can keep up. I have the same worries about gagner. See neither is the best of skaters and hall yakupov eberle and perron all have insane speed. Thats the one thing grabovski has that will fit in really with on the second line if and i say if ganger isn't able to keep up with his wingers. Now i'm not saying the oilers should sign grabovski i personally don't like his attitude much I was just saying that from my point of view it made perfect sense that they are trying to. I'm also not landers biggest fan either And even if RNH isn't ready to start the season and you start lander on the top line fine you still need another center and grabo still goes and plays on a scoring third line with hemsky and someone else.

Where would he fit on Edmonton? Our top 2 are Nuge, Gagner. Unless he would play on the 3rd line.......
- oilersrule66

Nuge is hurt Gagner can play wing. Long term I think he would Play with Hemsky on the third line but you know the oil with injuries. That may never happen. I agree Washington might make the most sense for his career. I REALLY don't understand Ottawa. They have 5 NHL centers and none of them are really use to playing wing. They were shopping Smith as he is seen as the worst long term. They would now need to trade two to grab wingers and Grab would still be third line.

Washington HAS to step up and make the best offer. The Oil have the money to make a good one. Plus they haven been able to fill their third line with anyone else. Grab provides options for them. Especially at the trade deadline before Gagner goes into his 1 year NTC.

There isn't room for both Hemsky and Grabo. If Grabo is in, Hemsky is out. Cant afford both.

No it doesn't.

Colorado giving up a first over all on an ELC.

Taking back almost 12 million in salary? With both ROR and Landy needing to be resigned next year and Stastny either resigned or let him walk?

Its absolutely ridiculous from Colorado's stand point. Never happening.

Well lets see Colorado has no goalie...no defence and short on wingers..especially grinding scorers like kuli wich they have coveted for like 3 years..there were willing to give a 1st for kuli alone,2 yrs ago

Doubtful as well. They have 4.8 mill left in cap space and still need to sign another 4 players. Cant fit Grabo unless its on a bargain deal.

Leaf fans will kill me for this, but I'm not even sure Grabs is an upgrade on Hemsky. He stays healthier I guess.

They are good with Varlomov, their top 6 is set. They need another decent dman. I could see them signing Hainsey. Then they are set for the year.

Gretzky was 6'0" and 180 - 185 lbs when he played. Enuf said!
- dogman35

Gretzky could have been 5'0" and 120lbs...HE HAD SEMENKO ON HIS LINE...I'm sick of people forgetting that. Gretzky today would be much less effective because the Kaletas and Carcillos of the league would have taken him out a couple of times with no consequence.

The league is different, the game has changed and these comparisons no longer apply.

Watch some games from back then.

Literally no rules. It was insanity.

One thing both Nuge and Gretz have in common is that they are almost impossible to hit.

totally agree with you, and I've played against guys like that. The guys that think the game at that level are VERY tough to get to. But if anyone DID get to them, it was lights out by the big meathead policeman in the middle of the bench.

Slashes, clutching and grabbing, hipchecks, etc. back then.
Blind-side hits to the head, spears, buttends, hitting in the numbers into the boards, etc. today.

The game is not the same though, I think we are both right.

Obviously didn't watch many games back then did you. Yes Semenko was on the roster. But he didn't play much with Gretzky.

players back then were always asked why they didn't hit Gretzky, and the common reply was "they are trying to but cant because he is elusive" The answer I cant ever remember hearing is " because if I do Cement head will get me"

Pavel Datsyuk. 5'11" 195 and still dominates in todays game without having an enforcer protect him.

I had already guessed that. Just pointing out you're too cowardly to admit it.

It's usually Leaf fans that spout poop without ever considering things like cap management, asset management, business side etc....
