If you don't like it, why watch it? You seem to be up on all the activities yet you are complaining about it? You have a choice not to go, watch or listen to it. I don't care for it either but obviously many do.

Fair is fair. Hard not notice it when it is even plastered on nhl.com. I guess people must like it because it is packed every year, and the Hawks are about the only team in the NHL to do something like this. We all can't be in love with Sharpie and Burish destroying another hotel room I guess.

I wondered if Saad would so back to #22 now that Mayers is gone, but it appears he'll stick with #20.

Jimmy Hayes is #22 now that Khabby took his #39. Morin is #11, Danault is #24, McNeill is #15, Leblanc is #14 and Teravainen is #23. Last season at this time I wanted Shaw to change his #65 to his usual #15 but I'm happy he didn't.

Before you ask...yes, I am this bored that I had to post a message about jersey numbers.

Sometimes the new number means allot to the player because it was what he broke into the league with. I'm waiting for some Yahoo to pick #69.

If a story broke that they rode a Harley into a suite or if they pitched TVs from the 22 floor into a pool all that would change.

Get me my convention tickets if a story like that ever broke. I am sure the appeal is there for many and that is very cool if that is something that they enjoy. Shouldn't judge, but then again I wanted to rant a little too, LOL.

Had to look it up. Only two players to ever wear #69 in the NHL per http://www.hockey-reference.com, Andrew Desjardins and Mel Angelstad.

Is anyone tired of the same stuff over and over from the Blackhawks Convention? Yes, I think it is great that the Blackhawks get a chance to interact with the fans and thank them for their loyalty. I have grown tired however of hearing about the Patrick Sharp/Adam Burish pranks, seeing a Jonathan Toews/Patrick Kane dance off, and other cheesy things that go on. How many more prank stories can Sharpie come up with? How many more stupid questions can some of these fans ask? I don't know, maybe I am being too harsh, but some of the convention stuff has gotten stale for me. I do hope it does continue, but a little bit of a different format is used. Just my two cents, but not everything has to be made to be into not very funny humor and the same stuff all of the time.

The convention is what it is. An opportunity for the fans to ask the same stupid questions over and over again, and you can be sure that they will never run out of stupid questions. It's a little more money in the organizations pockets, and does tend to build good will and grow the fan base. No different than the fan conventions that exist for everything now. Another revenue stream.

Not sure what else you would expect, the "average" fan unfortunately is not really an educated fan. They would much rather watch a dance off, or hear goofy stories than sit and listen to coaches or players talk about defensive rotations, supporting the puck, faceoff techniques, etc.

JJ- are you hearing anything new on UFAs or is Stan going to see how the yutes do in training camp before extending potential offers? Still think Larose or Raymond would be nice fits on the 3rd line as a speedster to replace Stalberg or Frolik

So do you not think the Blackhawks give players honest shots at making the team?

I used to run the Jersey procurrment for a youth hockey organization I was involved with. The program had a 100+ kids in it. Kids that stayed in the program for multiple years usually got to keep their numbers as they moved up, so we tried to ensure that younger kids and newer kids to the program never had the opportunity of a conflict with an older kid.

At a certain point it became popular to wear your birth year as a jersey number (hence Crosby's 87, Kane's 88, etc.) or the high double digits like Lemieux' 66 or Gretzky's 99.

Since there was a 6 week or so lag time to have the jerseys made, we used to pre-order a bunch and have them pre-numbered, then we would only have to add the name plates once kids made a team. One year, we had a bunch of the Jerseys numbers with the higher end numbers, and not thinking it thru, there was a 69 in there. When it wound up being distributed to a kid (a 10 year old), it only took until the next morning until his mom was at the rink demanding a new jersey. We didnt make that mistake again...

Larose and Raymond could fit in well, but Stan keeps saying he wants to give the youth a shot and I have no reason to believe the Hawks won't do that.

I have no real idea but that wasn't my point. It doesn't matter what you or I think, it matters to all the Hawk prospects that they know they will get a fair assessment. Pirri had a great year statistically, based on that and the fact the Hawks have a center position to fill I think it's imperative he be given a fair chance to earn that position.

What is a fair chance? NHL games? Q has already said Saad is getting the first shot at at 2C, he certainly deserves it more than Pirri based on their play last year. So does Kruger. I guarantee every player in the Hawks system knows that the best players make the NHL. And if you don't make it its not because someone screwed you over, its because you aren't good enough.

In the past I was against players wearing higher numbers, but I've change my wind on that. Guys like Frolik and Shaw have made me more comfortable with these non-traditional numbers.

A portion of it I'm sure goes to support Blackhawk charities, but not all. Besides, look at all the revenue streams generated by the event. The program that is distributed has adverstising in it..$. The whole event has "sponsors"....$. There is a vendor area with people selling stuff, I am sure they paid for their booth, and maybe even a % of sales....$ Heck if the hotel works like most conventions, etc. there is even a kick-back on each hotel room reserved as part of the event.

The event is an awesome way to build fan support, loyalty and grow the fan base, but dont kid yourself into thinking that the Hawks would be doing it if they werent profiting on it.

The NHL exists to generate profit (or a tax write off in a couple examples). I have no issue with any team trying to make as much money as possible. The higher the HRR the higher that cap hit and the easier it becomes to retain our key players.
