I think Bollig was in the Convention lineup in case Amonte was there.

Savard in my number 1 line Center. Still remember the day when I bought his rookie card.

Because he'll be the 1st line centre....d'uh!

Hey Darth,

I'm reposting this from the last blog, it was a response to your comment, check it out:

As fans I think we are pretty lucky to be a part of this team. Dynasty or not it's clear that this team is something special. I know this team isn't perfect but when you look at their accomplishments over the past few years in addition to the possibilities that lay ahead it's pretty damn exciting.

For so many years we suffered through some painfully bad Blackhawks teams waiting and hoping for better days. That patience has paid off big time. In 15 years we'll look back on this group as one of the best in team history.

From the management, to the coach, to the players this organization has given their fans some great memories.

Amen brother, Amen.

Let me also add, I've been watching the Hawks for about 30 years. This team to me is special because of this:

I genuinely like/appreciate the players on this team. Some of the players on my other sports teams I don't necessarily mind if they got traded. The players on these Hawks teams are just awesome. They really are enjoyable/likeable players.

I mean, hot damn, whenever my friends start talking about their hockey teams and their players all I have to say is this (with a huge smile on my face):

I'm a Hawks fan, Toews is the captain, enough said. All my friends shut up and say to me "Ok, you got us there!"

It's a shame, because if all those players had ended up on the hawks at once in that decade, you have a contender.

But I suppose that goes for any team.

Philco would give Larmer the Ovechkin treatment and put him at both LW and RW...on all 4 lines!!!
- eburgio

for sure Burgy.....and i'll echo others in here re: Peanut Butter and Zhamnov.

Savvy came back in his 2nd tour with us and was a key part of our '95 run which included an epic 7 game 1st round win vs Toronto (my personal favorite memory outside the 2 Cups) and a 2nd round sweep of Van. Savvy had 18 points in 16 games during the '95 run, whereas Zhamnov only played 5 playoff games in 7 1/4 years with us, and didn't notch a single point.

Savvy 2nd line center EASY of the Russian Dud.

Hey Phil,
I'm listening to the Convention intros -- thought you'd like to know Gramps (Larmer for you young-uns) is at the festivities. Along with Darcy Rota (another favorite of mine) and Eric Nesterenko (many many years ago was instrumental in helping yours truly with his slap shot, still credit the guy for it today!) and my favorite Hawk D-man in those early years Bill White (good ol' #2 -- wore #2 for many years because I loved his defense first play, just a real good, solid defenseman).

- savvyone-1

Thanks Savvy...prior to FINALLY meeting Steve this year, the closest i got to him was as he was leaving the Q and A forum at the 2010 convention, which i attended.

Nesterenko and White were before my time but i've read and seen a lot on them. Nesterenko as has been mentioned here...had a great cameo in the 80's cult hit Youngblood where he uttered one of my favorite lines...to his son played by Rob Lowe..

"you can learn how to punch in the barn
but you got to learn how to survive on the ice."

As for Bill White, i know he was a valuable member of the Team Canada during the '72 Summit Series win over the Soviets and of course that team and story is absolutely REVERED here in Canada.

I might have included Igor Kravchuk on my D. I liked how he played before he went to the Oilers for Joe Murphy.

Too bad we never got to see how a Goulet-Savard-Larmer line would've done. Might have been different with JR as a second line center. Obviously, we can't complain with what Cheli brought and our D the first couple of years. Guess you realize how much our D did those first couple of years.

For those of you who complained about Sharp's contract (except Ogi who has been reformed) how does it look now compared to Wheeler's deal?

Sharp was 5 years at $5.9 million. Wheeler is 6 years at $5.6 million, with a lower cap at the time of signing the deal.

I like Wheeler and I'd love I have him on the Blackhawks but he's no Patrick Sharp. The Jets did what they had to do to keep one of their best forwards but they overpaid.

Bob Probert doesn't deserve a spot on that list any more than Brian Noonan.

Bill White, way underrated defensive d'man. Acquired by the Blackhawks from the LA Kings, along with my favorite Hawk goalie (of that era) Gerry Desjardins. Gerry's career was struck down by the same eye injury that ended mine. A puck that hit his eye through the slot in the mask, pre-mask/cage combo.

I agree.

My first Hawks game was the Hawks against the Flyers at the old barn. I still remember BoobyClark was on the cover of GOal magazine. It was in the mid to late '70s. Can't remember now. Sat right by the steps leading up to the ice. Watching Bill White Phil Russel, Darcy Rota, Chico Maki, Maggy, Jim Pappin, Dennis Hull and of course Tony O.

So what were people's thoughts on tonight's opening ceremony? I always like their videos. I really liked the ending when they showed all the fans reactions to the Hawks winning the Cup. Nice touch
