A not even slightly subtle stab at Kevin, this is really getting interesting.

"I've come to know Vanek as a player and as a man away from the rink in the past nine years."

Good lord, you're the Stephen A. Smith of the blog world. This blog is hilarious.

I'm going all out with my crazy a$$ idea of this trade:

Vanek AND Miller to the NY Islanders in exchange for:

Strome, Reinhart, Persson/Lee and conditional draft picks...

Conditions: If Vanek OR Miller extend with NY with a new contract, the Sabres receive an additional 1st round pick in 2015. If BOTH players extend, then the Sabres receive that 1st round pick (2015) AND an additional 3rd round pick in 2014. If neither player extends with the Islanders beyond the upcoming season, the Sabres only receive a 4th round pick in 2014 (No 1st or 3rd rounder).

The prospects are significant, but they're still prospects. It's been one heck of a long time since the Islanders have seriously been relevant in the NHL. With Tavares leading the way, they have an opportunity right now. There is NO way any of their fans and/or Garth Snow can say that they're better with the potential of these prospects in comparison to the possibilities of uniting Vanek with Tavares AND putting Miller between the pipes. They instantly become a team to reckon with. JT has never had a winger with Vanek's talent... and Vanek has never had a center with the skills of Tavares. It would be insane for the Islanders not to jump at this proposal. Do they really have faith that Nabokov is going to get them past the teams in their new conference and the firepower that has been assembled through FA? I honestly think Darcy would be the one who would want more, since he got just a little less than this (relatively comparing) in return for Pominville alone. Yes, Pominville had another year on his deal at the time... that year is now the same length as Miller and Vanek have on their contracts.

I'd prefer that Buffalo receive another goalie prospect in the deal (Nilson?) since I don't have much faith in Lieuwen or Knapp, but I'd make this trade with or without their Swedish behemoth in the deal. And, yes, it will work under the cap.

Okay... now everyone can proceed to tear this apart. Thanks for the fun moment.

Vaneks an interesting case. always comes out of the gate like a house on fire, then slows down to an eventual dead halt. He's still a very good player, but needs a little more drive I think.

He has drive, he just needs to be less injured.

I keep in touch with Vanek's agent, Steve Bartlett, on a weekly basis. I'll keep you posted.

He may or may not, we don't know. What's bothersome on these boards is that people are never believed when they say they heard something or that they know somebody in the game. It's not that far fetched that actual fans know somebody or are capable of hearing truthful information. Heck, this entire site is supposedly predicated on rumours yet the only individual given any latitude is an anonymous guy with a less than stellar track record.

Regier waited for high spending teams to back themselves into the corner, now it's happened. You now bargain from a position of strength. Vanek and Hackett to Wild for Heatly and Grandlund.

Can we all please, please stop expecting the Sabres to have a horrible season!!! I am excited about the teams potential every game. The Sabres have a great past present and future. Every team needs a blend of experience, youth, and leadership. That is what the Sabres have. Appreciate the guys that are here, and expect them to compete every night. They and the fans will have a great season!
