And have you seen how many right shooting D men we have??? His one full year on the blue line was OK, and we had to make space for Blum and Ellis. Given Franson's time to develop, why we blew our draft pick on Ellis (aka Rocket smurf), yet another right shooting Dman is one of the seven mysteries of our times.

Bozak is overpaid and not even close to the prospect Kadri is. You need at least one impact player coming back, not two overpaid role players for a 1st overall center.

I have had this discussion before and how people bash Liles like crazy but i believe there are a few teams that would love him and for that price. Look at what Gonchar got in FA id rather have Liles then that contract.

With Rielly and Blacker in the system and Gardiner and Gunnarsson already at the NHL level Liles is certainly the most expendable. I understand what you are saying and if possible that's the avenue I;d traverse as well. That being said if you can't move Liles for decent value then trade Franson at his peak now. Let Liles recoup some value in a top 4 roll and then ship him out when one of Blacker/Rielly is ready. Even if Liles doesn't bounce back fully he will probably have similar value to now, especially at the deadline.

The return for Dion would have to include a minute-eating D-man, likely with much less offensive skills. I'd be fine with that considering Gardiner, Franson, and Reilly not so far away.

Toronto is far from the only team with this problem right now...there are still several RFAs out there needing to be signed of importance (Stepan, Pietrangelo, Bogosian, Wheeler, Hodgson, Cowen) to name a few...
