Okay, so your grand solution is swap Ranger with Ference on the top pairing to play with our new #1, Carl Gunnarsson?

What you aren't realizing is that Ference isn't a top pairing guy, either. He's a solid #4 on a contender.

Gunnarsson, Ference, Franson, and Gardiner don't even get you within a sniff of the playoffs. I shouldn't even have to explain this.

- Leeman4Gilmour

Disagree. I don't think it would be worse defensively. Dion blows in his own end. I think Gunner makes him better defensively. They would lose a little on the offense, but then, they have a lot of good guys in that area anyway. Gardner, Franson, Fraser and Gunnerson are all young and getting better and better, Dion is Dion. I really don't see the big issue.

Again, I was talking about Kadri and Franson. How anyone got Phaneuf/Kessel out of what I said I have no idea.
- Leafs43

Lack of money (which Oilers fans were convinced existed), two best players.... Not really sure how we were supposed to get Franson and Kadri.

Franson for Luke Schenn
- Mapleleafs_91

yeah,

Luke was savior for us last year, Mez & Grossman are broken down, & Kimmo is almost 50, (but still plays like he's 30)

Nick Schultz at 2.5 million and a prospect?

Oilers don't have cap space for much unless they unload Hemsky

Sure but then you are carrying no extras except the back up. Kadris deal will be close to PKs number which is 2.8 something
- D.Lemieux

what do you mean no extras you have about 4 prospects you can call up and Brennan

Also Leaf fans, I don't mean to rip you on your own blog but you say you're ready to ship Phaneuf out of town but you overvalue him. I don't understand what would be fair value for Phaneuf. It's being handled similarly to the Hemsky situation...

That's funny,

question, can the Leafs send Liles to the minors?
I thought that was the Reddan rule or something where teams can't hide bad contracts or something like that?

Yes, he was.
- Leeman4Gilmour

He played just under 20 minutes in his last 5 (other than game 1 24) and the last game he was hurt and played only 13 in game 4. Good enough for me.

Never said two best players. I said highest scoring defenseman and second highest scoring forward.

My deal was banking on the fact that Hemsky was gone, though most of our cap is taken up by bonuses.

Nothing like Hemsky who is just bad, unhealthy and overpaid. Teams would actually want Phaneuf.

What do you pay them with buttons? They will be right at the cap. If there are injures Ok but I'm saying with your plan and everyone healthy there will be no one sitting in the press box. Last year they carried 23 players you are suggesting 20.

Wait a second... wait for it.... you're a genius! Doesn't 900K we obtain back, while the rest still counts against the cap?

a player sent to minors saves up to a max of $950K on the cap. Whatever his regular cap hit above that amount is still applied to the cap.

So saves $950K.

Likely the last resort as that would erase any trade value he might hold, even if salary were retained.

but could be done.
