I wonder ,would the leafs entertain sacrificing some of their wing depth say a Lupul,to keep their core defense pieces intact.
- top shelf 15

No.
Not at all.
They really dont have that much depth.

At this point, they probly have to if they want to improve.

I can see him replacing Fraser, I know a lot of people will jump on me for saying it, but I wouldn't have an issue with our d looking like:

Phaneuf/Gunner
Gardiner/Franson
Ranger/Reilly (if he truly is as ready as Leaf brass says), and sure I'd go with Fraser if he'd comeback for a decent price, but I won't blow my load on him either.

I feel like I'm missing someone here besides Liles.....(frank), who am I forgetting?

Yup, or no Bolland, I would go with this though because now it's media circus every night. Personally though, I would have neither Bolland or Bernier and go into next offseason all the better and keep everyone this year.
- aminnes

without Bolland they probably keep Grabo though, or go after Boyd Gordon.

Nothing to base that on.
Bernier addition was a good move.....and has the potential to be a great move!

Seems like the deals are hung up on $'s and years, not cap space issues. I'd like to imagine Nonis has a number for all of those guys and ways to shed salary if he needs.

Not sure why Liles is included in there, he's untradeable and was signed 2 yrs ago.

Gunnar had to be resigned cause he's the only guy not named Dion who has any business playing top pair.

Ranger and Brennan aren't interfering with Franson being signed.

So I ask again, do you want Franson signed at $5M per, right now, cause I don't have a time machine.

- Big_Lightnin

Because Liles should have been traded.

Gunnarsson should have not been resigned at 3 million

Ranger isn't worth 1 million as of right now.

Brennan sucks, and I'm not sure why we even bothered signing him.

Franson brings more to the team than any of these players, it should have been an easy decision to stick with him, dump Liles, and get him signed before any of these
players.

If I had to sacrifice one of the offseason moves, I'd give Bolland and his $3mill + cap hit and one year of team control back over Bernier.
- 1979AD

I actually like the Bolland move because it's such a clear upgrade at that position (compared to Colborne). And he may not extend here, but he would fetch a premium before the deadline.

I was under the impression that the starter's job has been filled last year with Reimer and his stellar numbers.

Leiweke definitely had his hands in that move. Total unnecessary, but he wanted "his guy".

Make it the 2104 first & you have a deal. No one is interested in your 2015 first rounder.

I would see him having more value than Scnieds seeing as he is way way more proven. I'm not throwing out trades because it's unnecesary. I was just stating talk in Buffalo at the end of the year was it was likely his last game, but with a flooded market there was no trade partners.
- Jay Uller

Good so you don't want him and neither do we. Dubnyk has this year to prove himself as a starter and if not he's gone. I expect him to be a solid but not elite starter. Put up decent numbers with a horrible defense in front of him. This year the D is improved so if he (frank)s up he's gone.

Take the goggles off. There were some very good young dmen drafted in that draft. I don't know how widely regarded he is. Ryan Murray and Jacob Trouba would have something to say about that. And also his ppg dropped slightly from 2011-12 to 2012-13. He's a very good prospect but not as good as you see it and that much better than Nurse who's thought of as a young Pronger type. Whether either lives up to their lofty expectations remains to be seen but their value is quite similar.
- Ihatebrianburke

If you are expecting Nurse to be Pronger you are going to be very disappointed. He isn't even Luke Schenn.

With my Hungarian background I want to go to both places. Bustabout tours does a great tour from Prague to Split, and once you're finished it (takes 8 days) you can go to many places near the Adriatic sea. That's what the wife and I will do in a few years time......hoping the next few months may lead to some other type of good news for us

wouldn't see the point. Forwards look good. do what they can this season. I don't want to sacrifice forwards for Defence when we know we have at least 1 blue chipper coming on D, and maybe 2 more good ones.

I'm willing to take a step back on D for a year to maintain the top 6 as is. (I assume Bozak isn't part of the "sacrifice" )

Its an just an idea ,but say you move Liles and Lupul. For a cheaper younger winger and a pick +prospect .Could work to ease the cap pressure on Toronto this season

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we need to carry 23 men on the roster?

So you need a #7D at all times. That's the point of Brennan and Ranger.

Think that's just the most we CAN carry. Can run 20 if they want as far as I know

Not sure if that is enforced or just the limit
