Just don't see him going. Not only about Money for him - he proved that by signing his last 2 contracts and staying here. Easily could have made more in KHL.
- Big_Lightnin

He's married with kids now though no? That tends to change your perspective on the security of the bigger contract and setting your kids up for life. I'm just guessing though.

Shattenkirk is 4.1 or 2 I think. He doesn't comparable that high yet IMO. I think fair value is around 3.8 or 3.9 if we take the cap out of the discussion. On a 2 year deal maybe he takes 3.5 with the promise from Nonis he takes care of him in 2 years when cap is up.
- D.Lemieux

yup. and on a 2 yr deal, he's UFA when it's done anyway, so if Nonis doesn't take care of him, somebody else will.

I think that's the issue. Nonis wants to get him on 4 yrs (as he should) but the $$ doesn't work for 4 yrs.

I think we're going to be talking about this for another month... not a quick solution.

well, he got a pretty sever concussion and has never been the same since. If he was still playing the way he did pre-concussion, nobody would want to move him.

It's not a system thing, despite what some would have us believe.

- Big_Lightnin

I forgot about that, he was out a long time.

And there's the difference between changing cultures, he was needed here & sought after under Burke & Wilson, now they can't wait to move him

Makes me nauseous just thinking about it

I was looking at their roster in NHL 08, wow!

a complete required overhaul!

edit, remember when the "monster" was here to fill the net? geez.

He was married before he came to NA I think. His wife is Russian, so not like he has to convince a TO girl to go back, but still, I just don't think he'd go.

He's UFA, somebody will happily give him $4M or close to it next summer. Only question is whether it's the Leafs.

You know who really should sign him is the Caps...

put him with Backstrom and Ovie and let Ovie play in 1 zone and Kuli can play in the other 2

and it is still possible that he comes back fresh again and returns to form. Could be he just never felt right the last year and a bit.

But it's a risk for a new team, and Leafs don't have the cap to sign Franson and keep him.

So if we unload at the trade deadline what do you think he yields?

I think he gets a 1st honestly. Kulli's value is pretty high... he's a player you NEED in the playoffs, and can really play anywhere, even Center, in all situations. (He played C at the WC's last summer and was pretty friggin good)

EDIT: I'm honestly surprised the Leafs have never tried him at C actually. I could see him being a monster shutdown 3C

Ya agree would rather have a good prospect though than a high 1 st from a playoff bound team.

Would hate to see us keep him for the leafs own playoff run and end up with nothing.

ya possible too, just a 1st is easier to say. A 1st from last year is same thing IMO, and a less of an unknown

Brandon Sutter might be something to think about...

and before anybody who follows the line goes nuts, I'm not lobbying to trade Kuli at all, but I don't think Leafs will be able to sign him next summer, so they may have no choice.

I don't know, they seem really committed to the whole 1-2-3 way. Unless they think Jokinen can be their 3rd line centre and they can get him cheap.

Think there's a chance in hell Babcock starts him against the Leafs?

ya I doubt Sutter is available at all, but I'd so that trade if Kuli was going to walk.

Man remember when Pierre Maguire was poop talking yet again on the Habs for not picking him when they went with McDonaugh? He said something like this is the steal of the draft, the Penguins just got the next French Canadian star and the Habs miss from their own backyard again.

Now one is in the Italian league and can barely score over there, the other is a top-pairing defender.
