Never said two best players. I said highest scoring defenseman and second highest scoring forward. - Leafs43
Not sure how I missed that too, must of fed off the other comment. My apologies. |

Wait a second... wait for it.... you're a genius! Doesn't 900K we obtain back, while the rest still counts against the cap? - Mapleleafs_91

Timmonen is a good player, old as the hills, but still pretty good. |

no we didn't
seriously though, you're embarrassing yourself. Do every time you go on this rant.
Phaneuf got invited to team Canada camp for (frank) sakes. Think maybe it's time to get a clue?

whoa, that was douche like dude.
It was a question, the Rangers dumped Redden in the minors & after the lockout there were rules pertaining to that or something. |

a player sent to minors saves up to a max of $950K on the cap. Whatever his regular cap hit above that amount is still applied to the cap.
So saves $950K.
Likely the last resort as that would erase any trade value he might hold, even if salary were retained.
but could be done. - Big_Lightnin
But then you have to replace Liles with someone making at least 600K eats up almost all you save. Unless of course you are only going to carry 6 D. |

New plan. Trade anyone and everyone for 2015 first round picks, in turn making our first round pick even better.
Hope to god we get Mcdavid.

I said it was handled like the Hemsky situation, we're not talking about the value of the players - TomKlassen
How is hanging on to a player when he has no value and you don't want him remotely similar to not trading your captain who is providing value? |

Brennan, Holzer, Blacker.
Phaneuf-GUnnar
Gardiner-Franson
Fraser-Blacker
Holzer.
would work if Fraser is at $1M, which is more than he should get. |

you're missing the point. My point was that like Hemsky, Phaneuf is constantly bashed by fans and they want him shipped out, yet when a deal is to be made, he gets overvalued. This has NOTHING to do with their values, just how they as players were handled by their subsequent teams. Comprende? |

We're screwed next year when he retires, I kind of think we should get the best D man we can for Courturier, especially after we gave Lecavelier 5 ridiculous years.
best young D man for him at least |

I'm with you but you didn't really leave much to help with the shortfall on Franson.
you save 950 by sending Liles down then add Holzer or Blacker making 800K so you have a grand total of $150K to add to Fransons deal. That won't get you there. |

I think lack of any C's in the system whatsoever drove the price up for Grabo...
Had them bent right over on that one. |

The Leafs finally make the playoffs and so far this off-season they have managed to overpay for Clarkson and ignored two of their top 5 guys form last season.
This puzles me.
Shouldn't No. 1 priority been to lock up Franson and Kadri before tossing big money at Clarkson?
That's how I would have played it at least. - IanEsplen
Not really, UFA is fast and furious. Players get overpaid to have them signed quickly. Kadri and Franson are RFAs which means you have all summer to work something out. |

I don't see him making it though. He gets beat wide as it is, on the bigger surface... He's fast on the rush but his foot speed and lateral are pretty poop. |

No comprende. Hemsky has been retained because no one wants to give up anything of value for him. Hemsky is disliked because he is soft, always injured and not very good anymore. Phaneuf has been retained because he is useful. Leaf fans don't dislike Phaneuf, they think he is overpaid, overworked and shouldn't be captain. We all know he is our best d-man, there is no one on the roster to replace him, that's why he hasn't been moved. Not the same situation at all. Comprende? |
