They don't have 40+ million on Forwards though. They only have $34.8 + Kadri, which won't be more than $3M.

And that's like 60% of the cap which is pretty much what it should be, especially since Kessel's increase will only raise Forwards total by $3M max, but cap will go up more than $3M.

Are we really concerned that Liles won't be traded? I mean I doubt we get a crap load back for him, but he's still a decent NHL d-man. I would think a 3rd round pick and something along the lines of a depth forward is still very much attainable via a trade for him. There's still 3 months to go before we have to have our cap figured out.

Most of the GM's are still assessing their own moves, dealing with their own rfas. The next 3 months really are dead time, it's like that every year. They literally bust their asses at the draft and into July.....then get a bit of a breather. There's also the opposite end of things here, Nonis may want to get Franson extended before jettisoning Liles. Who knows, but right now no gm is under any pressure to many any moves. These are the dawg days my friend.

I can see him replacing Fraser, I know a lot of people will jump on me for saying it, but I wouldn't have an issue with our d looking like:
