yep giroux signed his current deal for much less than market, based on other deals around the league. id like to see the cap hit lower, but he had every right to go for max dollars on this deal. once the cup is upwards of 80 mil in a few years, contracts will be much more ridiculous than his.

I had my fingers crossed hoping that he would sign a contract like Steven Stamkos did, a 5 year deal with a $7.5M cap hit.

There's nothing wrong with Giroux's contract, I was just hoping that now that we FINALLY developed a drafted player into an all-star captain he would give us a bit more of a home town discount.

Giroux's new deal will eventually turn into a hometown discount. If he continues to play at the level of a top player in the League. Stamkos signed his deal 3 years ago. And it was his first deal after his EL contract ended. Huge differences there.
