Columbus gets a #1 C to play with Gaborik/Horton or both, and remove Dubinskys under performing $4.2m cap hit. Vancouver actually presses the "reset" button, adds another quality prospect down the middle and adds a little sandpaper to the top 9. Kesler does have a NTC, but Columbus is only a 3 hour bus ride from Livonia MI, so I think Kesler would waive to be so close to home. CBJ is right up against the cap, so there may need to be additional pieces one either side to sort out the salary. - 1970vintage
I like this deal a whole lot! But you also have to factor in that we have Torts... You think he will be happy to see Duby again? |

I don't mind Cody, but he has a lot of work to do in his own end before I'd commit long-term to him and make him one of my core guys.
Cody is a tier lower than Duchene, Kadri, Henrique, Gagner, etc... in my books. - IanEsplen
Absolutely. His skating is what is currently preventing him from getting up there with those guys. He isn't fast enough to be a strong defensive player yet. You need to be able to get to the right areas quickly, cover speedy players and recover quickly in order to be a strong defensive player (think Kesler, Datsyuk, Bergeron, Toews). At this point Cody has shown nothing to suggest this will greatly improve. |

I don't really know much about Etem, but he hasn't really done anything at the pro level. Sure, he ripped it up against kids in junior, but so did Nick Kypreos. Booth is only a buyout candidate because of injuries, at this point both players are all about potential, except that Booth has actually had success... Just my $0.02. |

If we're going to trade Kesler it should be to actually upgrade, not so that we can feel we hit the "reset" buttom harder. This is a downgrade IMO. Kesler is FAR better than Jenner and while Dubinsky's an upgrade on Higgins, he also costs $1.7M more for the next 2 years. |

I cant see anyone giving us value for booth. I know we think he is great but what is his reputation amongst other GM's. Especially with his injuries the last few years the best we could do is a draft pick or a mid tier prospect. |

I think the team would be better without Kesler. I know you disagree, but it doesn't change my mind that he is a distraction and a bad influence for the other players. It would definitely be a step back this season, maybe next as well, but I'm thinking about the longer term success of the organization. Jenner has better offensive numbers but it is difficult to compare them as Kesler played collegiate hockey. Dubinsky is listed as a C on HockeyDB, maybe he can fill in on the second line for a season, maybe not. |

All I'm saying is maybe it isn't as lopsided as Anaheim getting "franked" as the Nuge suggested. Like I said, I don't know much about Etem, other than what the stats say. I don't think ANA would go anywhere near that deal, just that as far as trade value, maybe it isn't so bad? |

Booth's been more injury prone than Ales "Glass House" Hemsky. Booth hasn't hit over 40P since '09. Etem could be outscoring booth by age 21. Don't have to know a lot about Etem. He was a first round pick in 2010 and has progressed nicely. Booth has struggled to produce and stay on the ice. |

I saw him as having JackJohnsonitis - which is described as, His father believes he is a star caliber hockey player based on what he did in Junior, he is deemed to have earned top line minutes without having to earn his minutes through proven hard work and adaptation to the NHL game. This same fatherly advise and forethought comes to contract negotiations as well. |

Meh, I think Booth still has the potential to contribute. His injuries have been of the freak variety as opposed to the recurrent. I agree, youth with potential is more valuable than a veteran player with potential, especially where the salary cap is concerned. I'm fine with him staying in Vancouver for the next two seasons, which is likely because as you say, he doesn't have much market value currently. |

Not sure Duchene belongs in the same category as Kadri, Henrique and Gagner. |

From what I understand of Boone Jenner I'd do this trade. Always been a fan of Dubinsky's style - would be the ideal 3rd line center. |

His skating and strength don't concern me when it comes to playing D. That you can work on.
What concerns me is the are times when he looks like he has no interest in playing D.
I'll take a guy who loses Battles over one who doesn't get involved in them any day. |

What are you talking about???
2010 - 28 games due to a hit that would likely cost Richards a huge suspension today
2011 - 82 games
2012 - 62 games
Booth has struggled to stay on the ice, but he's consistently been on pace for 20+ goals and 40 - 65 points. |

I'm not a fan of a guy who looks like he's floating cause half the time he is floating, and the rest of the time he's skating so slow that he looks like he's floating! |
