Professional bookmaker's jobs are not to predict who will actually win. Their job is to set lines that will enable approximately even betting on either side to ensure profit.

Have you not watched Pittsburgh the last couple years??? The single most overrated team in the NHL. Zero depth. Awful defence. Even worse goaltending. But go ahead, bet the farm on them.

- KB3Point0

Exactly so the general public believes that pitt is one of the best teams in the league hence why they are favored. I never said I would bet on them but if you gave me Vancouver or Pitt I can tell you I aint picking Van and not many people would. DO I think they are better than Bos or Chi?? No but thats just my own analysis.

Vegas odds are built on who the favorites are. Look at the superbowl odds. anything is possible at any given moment its what we call sports. The Saints were ranked the 22nd best team when they won it.

Keep betting the farm on Van. There is a reason why they are 16:1 to win it.

GM of the year!

I liked that he actually went all-in this season though.

He had it coming and he's lucky to only get a day. I'm pretty lenient when people reply to trolls, but there is no need to use homophobic language when trying to tell someone you disagree with them. Similarly, chauvinistic insults and incest comments are out of bounds. Let's try to keep it a little classy in here please.

This place has gone really downhill this summer(even by HB standards), can't remember the last time I had a good discussion here.

Exactly. People can always be critical of what a gm does. We hammer MG on here a lot. Shero takes risks and guess what he has a cup to his name. Holmgren as well takes a ton of risks and I love that in a gm. He hasnt won yet but that philly team is always dangerous.

Totally agree, way too many gun-shy GM's. I understand that too much player movement can hurt a team's ability to attract UFA's in the future, but those UFA's have pretty short memory when you're willing to pay. And I wouldn't worry about trading a a good locker room guy or fan favourite if it meant improving my team on the ice. But to be fair, there's a ton of hurdles in today's NHL: salary cap, ownership involvement, ntc's, etc which not only limits your own flexibililty but also narrows down potential trade partners as well.

I just love what guys like Holmgren and lombardi do. Never afraid to make the big move or sign the right guy. Lombardi went out and brought in Carter and got the cup. Holmgren did some stuff as well trading richards carter signing bryz. It didnt work out but at least he took the chance and remodeled his team. The signing of bryz was a disaster of course but I like a GM going out and making that move. It was a mistake and he bought him out and will try and make the next move.

Pitt made it the conference finals and yet they are over rated?? If they are overrated and suck what does that make vancouver for getting swept in the 1st round.

Um, Carter wasn't exactly a "bold" move on Lombardi's part, Columbus was looking to dump him because he was unhappy there and had requested a trade. Philly tends to try and make a splash every year because Snyder owns Comcast (which owns whatever the name of channel Versus is now that has a lifetime contract with the NHL) and therefore make more money due to fan interest.

This is a great point and there's a lot to be said for it. Shero brings in Morrow, Iginla, and Murray, wins GM of the year, yet he left me thinking he misread his entire team. Morrow and Iginla were not what that team needed. And they pretty much imploded emotionally and discipline-wise (in games 1 and 2 against Boston, at least) for the second year in a row.

Then over on the Hawks board we are beside ourselves lambasting Bowman because the only move he made was to bring in Handzus for a 4th round pick, and he ends up winning a cup. It can go both ways.

Bringing in a 40 goal scorer is not bold? Trading your previous 1st overall or 2nd overall pick plus your future 1st rounder is not bold? LOL.

I'll take my punishment knowing I crossed your line but the Canuck threads have been the sewer of HockeyBuzz the past few months. We take sh!t and abuse from passive-aggressive trolls day in and day out with seemingly little if any repercussion. The same trolls in here stirring it up with "honest questions" and "I'm not trolling but..." We been asking for another Mod for months to no avail. So, yes, sometimes against better judgement, one of us will lose it. We appreciate your work here and understand you have a real life. I apologize in advance in case it happens again.

Its gonna happen. I never respond to it. I say my piece and try and always keep the peace. I just laugh at people in this thread. Some of our own guys as well as the trolls. Sometimes us nuck fans only want to hear the great things. Some of the trolls not all for sure make some valid points. But you will never see me attack anyone on here.
