Only way we have a player with the "C" slapped on his sweater is fi one of these items follow (not saying any at all are in fact likely):

Vanek ends up signing an extension

Hodgson is signed to a max year deal

With neither of these happening, we will go through the season with 4 sweater's with an "A" on them, and maybe will rotate the "C" except i ghighly doubt that. Miller would be the unofficial captain until he is traded or leaves as a ufa. The 4 would be Ott, Vanek, Stafford(already had it, can't take it away unless he is gone), and Erhoff. When Vanek and/or Stafford leaves, Hodgson will pick up the A first. After that its at least a year away to see who makes the team, who stays, who goes and what not to determine the leadership we have. I personally believe McCabe and Girgensons will have letters on their sweaters sometime in their future here.

People just can't admit it, Vanek is the best player on this team. Nobody on this roster can score 30 -40 goals. The Vanek bashing is old just like the Miller bashing. Hodgson is no Captian, atleast not now he isn't and if we are in a rebuild it kind of goes against what we are doing if they don't sign Hodgson now doesn't it. People won't agree with me and that's fine.

i would hate to throw a C on hodge, him do alright, but then learn player Z is a better leader and we are stuck with either taking it away from hodge or keeping it on him.. also if you give it to vanek what does that say when you trade him at the deadline? i too agree only As

I say if you wanna see what Hodge can do, you give him the A and see if he runs with it. But in all reality, I think with the young group that's in the process of taking over the team, there are a few options for a C and a few As. This year and possibly part of next should be a transitional period. Go with some As. Rotate them around if you don't like what you're seeing from the one's your putting it on.

But I think Girgensons is going to be the true leader of this team within the next two years. His passion for the game and everything is going to drive this team and the rest of the group will follow. Even the Vets. His love for the game and the way he plays is going to be contagious.

I don't know many people around here that don't agree that Vanek and Miller are the team's best players. They absolutely are. The problem is that standard needs to be higher.

All Vanek really has is the ability to score goals in a 10 feet radius of the net. You would think Vanek is a lock to score like Stamkos is on one timers the way you talk of him being a 40 goal scorer, or when he gets open shots. Not true. Guy scores over 75% of his goals off rebounds or deflections.

Vanek lacks heart, drive and that extra gear. He will show it for about half the season, and completely disappears. If he ever put in a full effort he would be amazing. He doesnt have the ability to make players around him look better. When Pominville was on this team, HE was our best player. Because he did it all. He wasnt just one dimensional like Vanek is.

Personally, this is not the guy I want leading my team. Especially a team of youngsters. I'm not going to deny he has talent, but I don't think one of his "talents" is being able to lead.

Vanek was bolting out the door from Buffalo to go to Edmonton 6 years ago. Hes recently come out as saying that Buffalo isnt the best place for him to play because they are rebuilding.

Hes basically saying he doesnt want to play if hes not going to win. (frank) that. What a great person to choose to be a leader. I want a guy who will give effort and help other players develop win or lose. Hes got 10 years left in the league, Buffalo can become a contender in 10 years time.

Vanek has a poor attitude, and hes not a player you build around. Hes the Marian Hossa. The Jeff Carter. You add him when youre 1 piece away.

I know it is not a popular choice with you and some here. But Flipping Vanek to Minny for an exchange of Dumba+Nino+Heatley would be a great move IMO.

Heatley comes in here and scores 20 goals by the deadline and he can be flipped for additional assets.

So really it would Be
Vanek for Dumba+Nino+Heatley
Heatley for 1st rd pick+ prospect at the deadline

All in all it would be

Vanek for Heatley+Dumba+Nino+1st+prospect

Which is a really good deal.
