Offers presented in Ian's blog:

To FLA- Cody Hodgson and Ryan Miller
For
To BUF- Jacob Markstrom, Ed Jovanovski, Nick Bjugstad and 1st rd pick

My Thoughts- Buffalo needs to get rid of the circus and from a lot of the stuff I've read, moving Miller and Hodgson is a good start to doing that. Neither guy seems all that happy there and they would both be nice fits in Florida, where they need a No. 1 goalie and a centre to replace Weiss. Buffalo gets a restart with Markstrom in goal and Bjugstad taking over the top 9 position for Hodgson.

To DET- Vanek and McNabb
For
To BUF- Tatar, Abdelkader a 2nd(turns to a 1st if Vanek resigns) and the Sabres keep some of Vaneks salary

My Thoughts- Doing the math, the Sabres will need to keep somewhere around 5 million to make this work. I can't see that happening. I'm not even sure the CBA allows a team to pay that much and I also don't know why the Sabres need to take any salary back on a Vanek deal. He's a good player.

To CHI- Stafford and Ennis
For
To BUF- Sharp

My Thoughts- I love the enthusiasm Sabres fans on this site have…Oh wait, you're not a Sabres fan. Quick get Buffalo on the phone. Someone actually wants Stafford.

I would do every single one of these.

In a rebuild, we don't need Sharp at all.

I actually think Nash is a different animal in this case. Yes, him and Vanek have a lot of similarities, but in this case Carter is a better comparison (leadership qualities).

Vanek has way more upside than Carter but I see your point. I just think Vanek is a closer comparison to Nash than Carter in my mind.

He comes in and is instantly the captain of this team, He knows what it takes to win a stanely cup. He can teach the young guys a lot of things.

In terms of their type of play, yes. In terms of leadership, no. Nash is a way better leader than Vanek. I thought Nash would have a great season in NY this year. I was horribly disappointed. But I think he may have a good bounce back year. I

This is something this team desperately needs. Especially with the youth movement. That's what made Drury such a good leader here.

I don't think it'd be worth giving up one of those young pieces in Ennis in order to have Sharp score a few meaningless goals for us. What could he teach the rookies that any other veteran can't? You can't just tell someone "This is how you win a Cup...".

Sharp has been one of the most consistent players over the last 4 years or so. I think he'd be a great fit here. He's not too old to still contribute and he's been around long enough to be a good mentor for the young guys. He has a knack for scoring goals that really mean something. You need guys who have won the Cup on a team. We don't have anyone that's even been close at this point. Unless you're going to count Tallinder, who played not 1 playoff game during NJ's run.

No you cant just tell someone, but you can show them with leadership and work ethich. Youg guys would listen to someone who has 2 SC rings and has always been a constant professional.

My main issue is giving up Ennis. Not worth giving him up for that IMO.

Also, I think Sharp has some type of NTC/NMC. Probably enough to prevent him from going to a non-contender or a rebuilding team or a team without an identity, or all of the above...

League minimum deal, right? Sounds appropriate. Hope he can make it work, but I don't think he will.

Unless you get a deal you really like, I don't see what the point is in not waiting until training camp to get the best deal you possibly can.

I believe, including Gerbe, that Carolina has 11 starting forwards locked up, and the 12th will be Lindholm. Maybe things will work out for him.

If he plays more than 4 line minutes maybe. But he has to figure out how to enter the zone with the puck and not get dropped like a rag doll every time. 11 goals in 105 games doesn't cut it.
