Ian - I have difficulty seeing those options being presented to Luongo. Quite simply, who wouldn't jump at the option of netting 6.7m for this season, playing on the Olympic team, and then getting a nice flower basket in the summer to the tune of $20m+ before signing another multi-million dollar contract with a team of his choice?
This seems like an ideal scenario for any player which is why I can't see it as a realistic offer. |

No rings and two back to back playoff exits. Something ain't workin. - acmidd28
First round playoff exits that is. Hey, they're great players for sure. My point is if you want to win cups you need different styles and a good mix of talent and grit. If I'm a GM I don't give two indentical players $7 Mil plus a season at the age of 33. |

So Schneider wasn't traded?
Gillis never names Lu captain and then had it taken away from him?
Must have been one hell of a dream I had - PatC80
I must have also dreamed the same thing. Along with Gillis trading Grabner for a d-man that barely played, and Hodgson for a guy who can barely score. But I guess those are opinions as well. |

$17million per season for 8 seasons, I wouldn't worry about the Sedins.
- 1970vintage
No kidding!
How'd Perry do after he signed his extension? About as well as Semin did after he signed his. How'd the Sedins do after they signed their last extension? Oh yeah, back to back scoring titles, an MVP and a most outstanding player.
No need to worry about the Sedins! |

Very well, show me the research backing up your claims.
I'll get you started.
"Selecting Roberto Luongo as our Captain is a significant decision for our entire organization," Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said in a statement. "(head coach) Alain (Vignault) and I were looking for someone to lead this team, who inspires his teammates, is respected for his on-ice accomplishments and who embodies the core values we are striving for as a hockey club. We are confident that Roberto, along with Mattias, Willie, Ryan and all of their teammates, will provide this organization with strong leadership both on and off of the ice."
That sounds like an organizational decision to me, not Mike Gillis appointing Luongo captain.
Or, how about this:
"I want to put my whole focus on goaltending," Luongo said at a news conference. "I wouldn’t say it was a distraction. I think I could put something less on my plate. The less distractions as a goaltender (the better)."
This was the press conference where Luongo stepped down as the captain.
I could go on and on but you morons aren't worth it. - 1970vintage
There was speculation that it wasn't all Lu's decision. No one here knows the whole story. Not even you. |

Perry and Getzlaf were on that team that won a cup, but that was Neidermayer and Pronger's team. What have they done since? Three first round exits, one second round exit and two years they didn't make the post season.
They are great players, no doubt, but without the supporting cast they have been even less successful than the Sedins. |

Rumoured to go up ten million, as the cap is artificially low this season. - Boinker
They generated huge revenue for the number of games they played last year. That is unlikely to drop too much this year. 6 "outdoor" games will help increase revenue. As will all that windshield wiper money they got coming in now! |

Grabner would have been waived from 28 other teams. Florida waved him. He's not that good. Wait a few years before you anoint the Hodgson trade a a loss. Two totally different players. You make it seem like they decided to trade Hodgson on a whim. He asked for a trade on multiple occasions You have no idea what your talking about or the reasoning behind your said "blunders". |

Not sure where you got that. That's extremely optimistic. You realize for the cap to go just back to 70 mill revenues would need to be almost 4 billion? They were at 3.3 before the lock out. So you're saying revenues will go up 21% since the lockout just to get to 4 billion. To get a 10 million increase revenues would need to be even higher.
This article shows some cap calculations based on some "average growth".

Hodgson asking for a trade, was not really public knowledge.. Fact is, sorry, opinion is, they could have gotten more in return for Hodgson. |

If the cap goes up 10 mill, next years UFA contracts will be ridiculous. Clarksons contract will look like a steal. |

In the past 6 years since Getzlaf and Perry became top line players Anaheim has missed the playoffs twice, been eliminated in the 1st round 3 times and been eliminated in the 2nd round once.
THAT is not working. |

I'm confused. Are you saying that it is a fact that Hodgson asked for a trade but it wasn't public knowledge or that it is speculation that Hodgson asked for a trade?
Fact is sorry? Your opinion is that the Canucks could have gotten more in trade?
This is all kinds of confusing. |

We wont know what they got for Hodgson until Kassian has a chance to fully develop. I'm holding judgement on that trade for at least another year or two. Especially with the coaching change.
The only thing that bothered me about the trade was the timing. Other then that who won or lost the trade is still to be determined. |

They aren't identical players, one is possibly the best passer in the league and the other is a goal scorer. They are the perfect complimentary parts for each other's game. |

You would think that would be the case, but there are still a handful of guys that want to "test the market". Those guys will make a mint. Plus any compliance buy outs next summer. |
