They going to discuss contract extensions soon. My guess is they resign for two years and go on for one year contracts until they go home to Sweden. Though, if they decided to not resign them the Canucks would have over 30 million in cap space with six D sign and pretty much half of their forwards. But even with the Twins signed at less money the Canucks will have tons of money to spend next year on a player like Vanek or whoever else. - Boinker
that's never a good thing unless you're balls deep in prospects that you can trade for high-priced vets, because generally what hits the UFA market is overpriced poop. |

How many good years do you think they have left??
Also, Detroit will be all over them if they go UFA don't you think? - Byfuglien Ate Me
They won;t go to a different team. They'll retire Canucks. They won't uproot their family to go Detroit, especially Detroit. They love it here and so does their family. After Vancouver it'll be on to Sweden. I honestly think they'll be first line players for another two years and second line players for another two. They have five years left. But I could also see them going back to Sweden after the 2015/2016 season. |

Fun times
"I think I am going to have to reserve comment for a while," Barry said. "We need to get up to speed and take some time. Obviously we are coming on to a difficult file and we need to give him proper advice and we need to take some time here, talk with Roberto, talk with Mike and Laurence"

im saying if you have a ton of prospects not quite ready to contribute, so many that you can trade a few away and still be in good shape. |

cant wait for 2 years when we hear canuck fans saying "i think lack is a top 5 goalie in the league, lets trade luongo, he still has value" - DarcyTucker16
Why do I get the feeling they aren't going to have that option in two years? |

I can see that, but I also didn't think Alfredson would ever leave the Hens either.

Truth be told: Gillis is not the type of GM to hint at things that do not have some substance or momentum behind them. MG said very plainly that the Twins want to re sign and the Canucks want to re sign them (finishing their career in one city where it all began). Luongo will not be bought out as there is no such thing as throwing away a buy out when it is for a player that fills a very specific need - and Lou IS the best option (now) for the Canucks and will be for the next 3 to 5 years.
The new youth movement is not going to be filling the first two lines anytime this season - and probably not for a few seasons yet. The only two rookies to ever have an impact in Vancouver in their first year were Bure and Linden. Unless Bo Horvat is the second coming of either of these players - I'm guessing he's not - he will play his 9 games in Vancouver after being a late cut at training camp and start his professional career next year in Utica after playing for his London OHL team and Team Canada Juniors.
Brendan Gaunce is an older rookie and will most likely (of any rookie besides Corrado) stick with the team. I only hope the new coach Torts is as good as they claim he is - and doesn't have Brendan perched on the 4th or 3rd line without seeing some special teams play.
Canucks still need an added veteran who could help with faceoffs : maybe Jeff Halpren? They could also use some grit that could play a 3rd line ringer winger role...
but on July 1st, 2014 there is a very real possibility Daniel, Henrik and Lu will be out the door and Vancouver will have a young nucleolus in place and somewhere around 30 million (if cap goes up about 4-5 million) to spend. |

In the cap era, how much longer can the twins expect to play together for? They ain't cheap and their styles are identical. |

If I'm a Canucks fan, I want Gillis as far away from this rebuild as possible. The guy has taken what could have been a perennial cup contender and turned them into a middle of the pack team. His handling of Roberto Luongo/Corey Scneider throughout his time in Vancouver is ridiculous. Let's recap:
- Made Luongo Captain
- Resigns Luongo to a 12 year, 64 mil contract extension
- Strips Luongo of Captaincy
- Declares that Schneider will be the starter and that Luongo will not be back with Canucks
- Unable to trade Luongo due to horrible contract that he negotiated
- Trades Corey Scneider for far less than he could have (If he kept his mouth shut) and declares that Luongo his his starter for upcoming season
- TSN contacts Luongo who indicates that he had not spoken to Gillis previous to trade, and has not decided what he will do for the upcoming season.
That my friends is the work of an incompetent GM.
When Gillis first started, he made some good moves, that positioned the Nucks well. But lately he looks like a guy in a sinking ship trying to patch this team up with whatever he can get a hold of. Cut this guy loose before you don't have a ship left. |

FYI, Bure only played two seasons with the #96, he switched back to #10 for the 1997/98 season. He played 13 games in 1995/96 and 63 games in 1996/97. I think retiring #96 would be considered bad luck, as the two seasons he wore it were filled with injuries.

I really don't see him having a shot at the Cup with Detroit. |

$17million per season for 8 seasons, I wouldn't worry about the Sedins.

The Canucks made a royal mess of the Luongo situation. Schneider should have been traded long ago when they could have go t more for him.
I don't think Schneider is a bad goalie, but it's better to have the return he'd bring plus Luongo than Schneider and the return Luongo would bring.
Luongo is a class act, I'm sure he's making Gillis worry for the summer but he'll be back. |

Canucks have 21.5 mil in space without the sedins, its unreasonable to expect the cap to go up more than a couple million. If the Sedin's resign and Vanek comes to town, thats about 2.5 (max 5 if cap goes up) with only 15 guys signed.. Maybe possible if booth is bought out, but it would be tight |
