I brought facts and you all dismissed them as baseless speculation because it was convenient for you to do so, so you can continue with your current and misplaced beliefs. - twiztedmike
No, you brought rumours and speculation that you thought were facts. |

IMO, I would say thats a fair statement to make but we'll never know.... - chompsey
How is it a fair statement, when the man himself said it?
If I had made that comment, sure it's a rumor, but it was Gillis.. One of the two parties involved |

Do you get it that it was reported as a done deal? That it was not reported as a conversation, but that it was reported by Aaron Ward as having been completed and agreed to and that he was wrong? - KB3Point0
Do you get that he reported it based on actual trade discussions? And that he made his own human error to jump the gun to try and report it first?
He didn't just make up the fact that Iginla was going to Boston.

You still cannot draw the lines.
Here's how it works.
A TSN Source close to a member of an organization, lets say a Toronto Maple Leafs scout, gets tipped off by the scout about the ongoing discussions between the team's GM and another teams GM, say, Vancouver. A bunch of names are dropped.
The TSN Source then reports that these trade discussions are being held. Its called a rumour. Its not BASELESS Speculation. The trade discussions actually happened.
The trade falls through, it doesn't happen. This doesn't void the fact that trade discussions DID actually happen. - twiztedmike
TRADE DISCUSSIONS AND SAYING A TRADE IS OFFICIAL IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!!!! its not a hard concept to grasp |

Comprehension my friend, I said your statement was a fair statement.....jesus.....
AND, Gillis can say anything he wants, doesn't make it fact until the other party corroborates it...... |

Yes, then why did you bring up saying a trade is official when our original discussion was about trade discussions? |

That is EXACTLY right, he can say anything he wants...it hasn't been proven as fact, therefore it is a RUMOUR - annoyance_101
No, it's not right.. Example: Nonis or any GM said we called and offered a contract to Wayne Gretzky, but he didn't return our call...
That's not a rumor...

That is exactly the point. He reported that the discussions were an actually completed trade when they weren't. Nobody said he made up the trade, but he didn't report it was discussions, he reported that the trade WAS COMPLETED and that Iginla WAS A MEMBER OF THE BRUINS. That is the point! |

I only brought it up because TSN and other sports news sites are known to be wrong from time to time... - annoyance_101
They weren't wrong completely. They were wrong about the last 5% of the detail which was the fact of whether or not the trade went through.
They reported all the details of what would have been the trade |

Are you seriously in here preaching about facts and then using this hypothetical scenario as evidence to defend your argument....?

so just cause 1 guy made a mistake every NHL report is a mistake?
The fact is, when they made the mistake, they redacted it and reported it accurately soon after, in its place.
News organizations don't just leave errors up for everyone to see.. |

Prove that it happened...it depends who says it...for instance, i don't believe a word that Gillis has been saying for years now...and after the iginla mess up at TSN, i'll never believe Aaron Ward either... |

Except they jumped the guy because they cared more about being first than being right. Shoddy "reporting." |

My point was actually that they often speculate and report rumours. That was just an example that they also get things straight up wrong. |

Until I hear Luongo say that him and Gillis get along...I will continue to treat it as a rumour, as I said, it depends who tells their side of the story, if a liar tells me that they are rich, i'm not going to take their word for it, i'm going to take it as a rumour started by them... |
