I can think of two: Patrick Roy and Roberto Luongo.

Roy shouldn't even be used as an example. The trade is considered one of the most lopsided trades ever. Not to mention the fact that Roy basically put Montreal in the position where he HAD to be traded.

Luongo was traded more because Florida couldn't afford to resign him. In the end, it was an unbalanced trade, but one example where Florida did not get full value.

But regardless, this scenario occurs so rarely that you can't use many other goalie trades as a comparison.

- BruHAWK

If you look at the list of goalies traded over the past 20 years, it is virtually always a complete steal for the team acquiring the goalie. Whether they were a #1 or a potential #1 the return has not been good. Here's a few: Roy, Luongo, Kipper, Lehtonen, Hasek, Rask, Vokoun, Belfour, Vernon, Halak, Bernier.

Why would it be any different with Schneider? Why would he be the exception?

Just saying that there is no point worrying about Lu's feelings. How he plays is on him.
- nucks_94

I agree with that. That's why I think people nitpicking on Gillis for not calling Luongo prior to the Schneider trade are just stirring the pot. He has a contract, he knew it was difficult to move, this is not news. Sure he's disappointed he wasn't moved, but he's clearly known for some time that this was a possibility. Give him his space, let him do what he needs to do to be ready for the year, but no need to put on the kid gloves. He's a professional.

Option A
Come play with Vancouver for the season and see what happens. You'll be paid 6.7 million and this is your best opportunity to make the Olympic team and play on a fairly good team. If you are still not happy and don't want to be a Canuck, we will use our other buyout on you at the end of next season if a trade can't be made.

To be fair, this whole (frank)ing mess isn't his fault.
He's got all the reasons in the world to be pissed.

Maybe he got bad advice from Lupien, like "Lu, you should spout off to the media every chance you get, that will force Gillis to trade you".
- 1970vintage

I think it could be more like this: Have you ever worked a job that you didn't really like and then applied for a new job that you really wanted. You go to the interview and everything goes great and start preparing for the new job. You get excited about the potential new opportunity and can't wait to quit the stupid job you have. Then you get a phone call telling you that you didn't get the job and you you have to go back to work at the job you didn't like. It can be demoralizing. But in Luongo's case he has to go back to his old job and have the a dozen mics stuffed in his face from one of the most insane media markets in the country and be asked "how are you feeling?" Only to have that presser be the topic of conversation for the next 5 days.

This is why I think he has a new agent. To help with this transition back to his old job.

Yeah, he should be pissed he didn't play as well as Schneider. If he had there would have been zero controversy and nothing to talk about.

The half season that just passed wasn't when it all started.
It was the same (frank)ing joke last summer as well. Gillis is a (frank)ing clown.

Thanks tips. And why was it a joke then again??? Because Schneider out played Luongo. The only thing that Gillis can get blamed for at that point was not trading Schneider before he outplayed Luongo. Which is ridiculous because then you're trading an asset before you can maximize his value.

Wrong.

Maybe its the fans fault for pressuring Gillis to hold out trading Luongo for 4 1sts and 3 top prospects instead of just taking what he was actually worth.

Luongo got 31 wins that year. What was stupid is Gillis saying he'd trade Luongo.

And do nothing.

He never publicly said he would trade Luongo. The most he said was that it was unlikely that Luongo would be back.
