Also, Tomas Hertl wasnt mentioned in the article. He was the best forward for the Czech in this years World Championships. He will be invited to camp and likely battle for a spot. Not sure he will make though. probably depends how he does in his first NHL/AHL season. We'll see this fall...

Honestly, I think Canada is ridiculous for not taking Brent Burns becasue he is so versitile. He is both a top 3 forward or top 2 defensman on any NHL team. He has a great shot, fast skater, hits. He can play a fast puck possetion game or a grinding dump and chase game. Defensive or offense style.

He might not be the best possible player on Canada but they have 20-something other roster spots for that. He would be the best option for Canada not necessarily as a starter but to have an extra roster spot in case of an injury to a forward or defensman.

They'll have extras at all positions. It's not exactly the same war of attrition as the playoffs. Burns is a fine player, but if Couture is on the bubble, Burns doesn't have a hope.

World Championships? No, I think you are referring to the U20s. He was awful in the WC

Then you really have no point to make, do you?

As an aside, they've been to the WCF 2x recently, but don't let that get in the way of your excellent posts.

Typical of some Sharks fans to be proud of accomplishing nothing. BFD we made the WCF 2 X wow! For a team picked to go all the way by many for 5 or 6 straight seasons. Not even getting within 7 games of winning a cup is something to be proud of? Excuse me Atlanta Braves Fan.

The forward crop of Team Canada this year is insane. I was trying to jot down a mock/prediction roster and I could only lock in 4 (Toews, Crosby, Tavares & Stamkos), 2 of which I even feel uneasy being 100% on. I couldn't do anymore because it was hurting my brain!

With that said, Couture could definitely make the team. He's in a group of young and super talented players, so it'll probably end up being all about who works best with the other players that are definitely making the team.

I think Thornton could be the perfect #4 guy down the middle if you want a big but very 2-way conscious 4th line, maybe pairing him with a Mike Richards, Ladd, Lucic, Neal, Marchand or with his old buddy Nash.

- IntotheTeal

I think Couture makes it too. Thornton makes it only if the team wants to have a slow down 4th line center who is good at faceoffs.

Funny that nobody is commenting on Marleau's absence from the invite roster when he was on the gold medal team in Vancouver. Maybe that will be a wake up call to Patty that he's not very well respected.
- diskprotek

Of course nobody brings it up, most Sharks fans unlike myself believe Marleau is the greatest player to ever hit the ice. Unless you want a soft player who floats around the ice, shying away from contact and looking for tip in type of goals you avoid Marleau. Especially if you're looking for a good defensive forward who plays with heart.

Do you now?

Perhaps you also have this week's lottery numbers as well, Nostradamus?

They've got a better shot than the leafs, I'd say.

- Team_Teal

The Leafs are an up and coming team, that took Boston to the brink of elimination. The Sharks are an old team, with no prospects and a GM stuck in the stone ages.

LoL! another (unfortunately) typical Sharks fan who thinks all Sharks players are the greatest, and that Doug Wilson is a genius. Burns is horrible on Defense, average on offense. Does not use his size, and is a poor skater. NO way in this world is he even in the to 50 Canadian prospects. Wake up fellow Shark Fans, really stop believing all the PR, and all the BS from Doug Wilson, open your eyes and watch hockey outside of California.

If Hertl is in a top 9 role for the Sharks we will be lucky to even make it to the playoffs. Does the name Lukas Kasper ring a bell? Hertl has POTENTIAL, but has a long way to go at this point. With that being said he MIGHT and I MEAN MIGHT stand a chance at a BACKUP 20th player role with the Czech Repubilc team.

Dude.... We get it. You think you're a better GM than Doug Wilson.

If you're that great, turn in your résumé to Hasso Plattner.

I had to Google that to see if literally was the right word for that. I don't think it is.

This might help:

"Literally" and "figuratively" are words whose primary meanings are opposites. By its main definition, "literally" means that an expression or phrase is not exaggerated or embellished — it means exactly what the words suggest. The definition of "figuratively" is that the words are metaphoric — they are a figure of speech meant to convey something different from their literal meaning.
