At the most important time of the year Carlyle gave Gardiner a ton of minutes. Enough said.

He wasn't in their system.. He was in college.

Murray needed to move lupul.. He earned too much with uncertain health.

So how do you move unwanted salary? By coupling it with a prospect that comes from an area of depth in your organization.

So they included an unsigned gardiner (who Carlyle never coached for a minute) to move lupul.

Plain and simple. Carlyle had nothing to do with it

- Dozzer

That's exactly how Burke ended up with Franson as well for a stiff that had no value.

There were a lot of media reports that Burke asked for Shultz first. But again, it means NOTHING at this moment as to Gardiner's future.

I know the facts dozer . did you know most good coaches know things about the prospects in the system lol
- jiri_crha

Actually, most coaches don't know a ton about the players in the system (aside from top picks) until they're closer to the pro level, especially when they haven't signed yet. They're NHL coaches, not scouts. That's why teams have scouts and player development staff.

Remember at the time lupul was a salary dump as well

People forget about that part

- Dozzer

Schultz was destroying the NCAA (best defenseman and first all-star), they had just drafted Cam Fowler who fell all the way from 3rd to them at 12, Sami Vatanen had just won the Best Defenseman award in Finland...they needed top-4 dmen sooner than later and wanted Beauchemin. So cap dump who never fit in and was injured + a prospect they had an abundance in similar style.

Head coaches are barely even at rookie camp, if at all. Seriously, they don't have the time to keep tabs on every single player the team has drafted.

So you think Carlyle saw him in camp for a few scrimage matches, said "I can't coach this player" and demanded that they trade him?

I think Gardiner is second this upcoming season in TOI to Phaneuf. He'll play a ton.

I mean in anaheim.

You're saying Carlyle didn't want him there, as evidenced by them trading him to Toronto.

Let's see if we can exaggerate a little more. I'm betting there was a whole bunch they seen that they considered uncoachable.

ok. We're at the point in the argument where you need to be reminded of what you said.
