Definitely would, I guess we've gone for so long without a cup that you forgot that you need a 1st line center to win them. You don't get them without a true #1 center. And yes, Bergeron is one. So thanks for coming out and voicing your opinion about the Phaneuf fan club.
- Seitch2

So I guess you think it's only a matter of time before the Islanders win a Cup?

You don't gut your team for one player. Depth wins Cups...not #1 centres.

Did you watch any Marlie games? He's dumb. Makes terrible decisions.

You do recall we had Mike flippin' Kostka on the roster last year?

EDIT: And Ryan "I get my skates stuck in the ice" O'Byrne

1. Chara & Weber are slow. Speed isn't everything
2. Things like that happen to everyone. Can't just single him out
3. Not everyone is perfect. A deflection is good enough.
4. Which is why Gardiner would be better with him.
5. I'll give you that. Needs to do more of it.
6. Unless you're ON the ice like the players, you can't say he provides no leadership.
7. We never signed him to that contract so it really isn't all our fault...and who are better options available?

Face it, without him, we WILL struggle. Like it or not, it's a fact. Nobody can realistically log the minutes he can.

- MCharisma91

Your points all make him seem like he is a decent defender. I agree he is decent, but not a #1 or #2, and certainly not worth 6.5.

As for what to do, trade him for building blocks. Get a 1st rounder and a good prospect. Let the guys we have fill his spot, and the young guys earn the opened spots on the team that come from him leaving.

Disagree with your assessment of those players "better" than Dion. Ill take him over Myers, Carle, Enstrom, Streit, Wis, Timonen, Campbell, Bouwmeester and Boyle.

Alot of those players aren't even top pairing guys, I'd love to see our Defense without Phaneuf right now. Would take a major step back.

- TheLeafsInsider

My point was, that I could right now probably trade Phaneuf for Myers +, or Carle +, etc... which I would take over having Phaneuf.

I don't think it would take a huge step back, but its all our opinion unless it happens. Maybe an injury will give us a better look if it happens this season.

I don't mind keeping Dion for the season, but at least move Liles.

Nothing against the guy. But it wasn't Nonis' contract. And we can get much the same production out of younger guys moving up the depth chart.

Who needs a PMD? EDM, is that you calling?

Too Many D Nonis

Kadri and Franson still not done....

But that's OK, because we got Gunnerson and Ranger signed

I don't get why we sign the plugs before the players

Gunnarsson I wouldn't quite call a plug. He can eat around 20 min a game, and plays a similar style to Niklas Hjalmarsson and Andrew Ference. I'm quite happy we locked up Gunny for a reasonable cost.

Yeah Long Island's a possiblity.

Places with cap space so we don't have to take much, if any back.

2nd rounder works for me

Losing Mark Streit, even at his age, hurts. Gotta believe the Isles have made inquiries or will, especially being that Liles cap hit is affordable

because there is absolutely nothing else to discuss this time of year...neither of those guys will be signed before Fraser signs or his arbitration hearing is completed. Unless they know that Fraser's arbitration asking price is cheap enough to still get the other guys signed...which is looking unlikely.

Yeah, I've looked all over and have found nothing conclusive. My buddy said he heard it from guys affiliated with Tampa in the ECHL who knew Ranger while he was in Tampa and their system. My friend plays for the Florida Everblades and shall remain nameless for incriminating purposes lol, but I trust his word as being the closest to the truth based on his sources. Either way, wish Paul the best and think he'll do just fine in TO.

I've always wondered what happened to Chad Kilger. That was weird.
