stop pretending like you know everything about every hockey player in the entire world.
- Gary_B.

My Rangers friends told me that though...also that McDonagh is the 3rd best defenseman in the game...ok I see your point.

Give me some high sales on Franson, what does he fetch?
- senstroll

On his own a draft pick, probably a 2nd, or a B prospect. In a package anything goes. How ever it were to go down the acquiring GM would be convinced Franson is a core top 4 player.

His best attribute is that he can play a pretty reliable 15 minutes and can drop the gloves if necessary. You could see the additional respect the Leafs got when he was on the ice.

I like him on the 3rd pairing. With him as a regular you can drop one of McLaren and Orr most nights.

- The Law

I agree with this. Fraser's a decent enough No.6 Dman, tough, reliable and keeps it simple. Would a Ranger-Fraser bottom pair do well? I could see it. We often mentioned we wanted to get tougher and Fraser really helps with that. If he remains No.6 Dman for a while, when Biggs and Broll get here, with Clarkson not many teams would enjoy playing us. Also keep Orr as 13th forward just to let him have fun vs the Habs.

what is the penalty to a team if you operate over the cap limit? do you loose draft picks, is there a fine? or do you actually forfeit games or something?
- vermie22

you have to replace your coach with Ron Wilson

Really? Making the Leafs worse would be the best day of your life?
- djamon

That's your terribly inaccurate conclusion so I apologize that you're feeling delusional. But that is of course not my fault. I'm sure you'd love to spend another 7 years without a 1st line center lol.

I also said Gunnarson is one of the players I wouldn't trade.

Gunnarson, Fraser, Gardiner, Rielly are the players I'd keep. The rest, if you get a good offer, trade them.

Can be over the cap until training cap is over. Have to be cap compliant by game one.

Another one of these "I know beter than a NHL GM" posts....multiple teams bidding on a non-NHL calibre defenseman...this one takes the cake. Not only does Mr. Djamon know better than Dave Nonis, he knows better than multiple NHL GM's who were making offers on behalf of their teams...baffling The NHL really should start an executive training program...

Its not all of us, only a select few. Here are my reasons:

1. He is extremely slow which his backward skating
2. He takes stupid penalties at the worst times
3. He has no accuracy with his shot
4. He cannot perform a proper breakout without carrying the puck from end to end (failing 3 out of every 4 times)
5. He never ties up anyone in front of the net
6. He provides no leadership on the ice to warrant wearing the "C" (maybe off the ice, but I don't get to see that)
7. At $6.5M per season, e have so many better options available

- mfreedman

1. Chara & Weber are slow. Speed isn't everything
2. Things like that happen to everyone. Can't just single him out
3. Not everyone is perfect. A deflection is good enough.
4. Which is why Gardiner would be better with him.
5. I'll give you that. Needs to do more of it.
6. Unless you're ON the ice like the players, you can't say he provides no leadership.
7. We never signed him to that contract so it really isn't all our fault...and who are better options available?

Face it, without him, we WILL struggle. Like it or not, it's a fact. Nobody can realistically log the minutes he can.

No need to apologize. You're not at fault for having such a sad life that trading for Tavares would automatically be your best day.

Man, the more I look at the length of the Clarkson contract the more I shake my head.

1-30 goal season and he gets that through his 30's.

Good thing it'll be 4 years or so before we have to worry about it biting us

He's a terrible backwards skater, not forwards.

He doesn't take a ton of penalties, but when he does they are stupid. It's not him diving after a guy on a breakaway, its a meaningless slash in the offensive zone. That is not captain material. As a captain you don't lose your cool like that if it hurts the team

How many times has Dion missed the net, only to ring the puck around the boards and give the opposition a perfect transition out of their zone? Its not only abot what happens when he hits the net, its what happens when he doesn't.

After looking at capgeek, here are people at comparable salary:

Karlsson, Boyle, Bouwmeester, Green, Chara, Doughty, Timonen, Campbell, Seabrook, Markov, Enstrom, KEith, Wisnewsky, Myers, Carle, Ekman-Larsson, Suter, Steit, Yandle

I'd rather 90% of those guys over Dion.

- mfreedman

Disagree with your assessment of those players "better" than Dion. Ill take him over Myers, Carle, Enstrom, Streit, Wis, Timonen, Campbell, Bouwmeester and Boyle.

Alot of those players aren't even top pairing guys, I'd love to see our Defense without Phaneuf right now. Would take a major step back.

Definitely would, I guess we've gone for so long without a cup that you forgot that you need a 1st line center to win them. You don't get them without a true #1 center. And yes, Bergeron is one. So thanks for coming out and voicing your opinion about the Phaneuf fan club.
