You should watch hockey sometimes. You would see that he is actually a damn good defenseman and that last year wasnt a fluke...not norris worthy but def one of the better d-men in the league - Jaciems
That would be exactly what I was saying if you read it. I wasn`t calling this year a fluke, just not a level he cannot sustain long term, but may reach again for periods of time.
Hardly a controversial assessment.

He said "It's an absolute joke that teams do this with their "Best Player"... People rag on the Flyers for alot of things but you dont see this happening there! They get their key players signed and let the guy's they really dont want, walk"
What Philly does with their players after signing them (keep 'em, trade 'em, buy 'em out) or what other teams do with their RFAs after signing them wasn't the point of the comment. I think his point was that the type of situation we saw with Ryan O'Reilly or P.K. Subban or Drew Doughty doesn't happen in Philly.
Philly gives their big players big bucks and if it turns out to be a mistake they deal with the consequences. The consequence last season was missing the playoffs. - Coburns_Nose
You're right.
All franchises should model themselves after the all mighty Orange and Black.
Just because they signed guys "they wanted" makes them the model franchise, i guess?!
It seems that the "solution" according to you fellas is to give them everything they want, damn the rest of the roster.

The Blues cleared out cap space for him by trading Perron. He'll get what he wants.
I laugh when people say it's so simple. Contracts aren't just I'll give you this for that many years. There's a lot of things to workout.
He's not going anywhere. - TimBits
Oh I know it's not simple you have to have the no wave runner clause. |

What are you talking about? No one is saying the Flyers do everything right. They are just saying they always pay for talent and don't let negotiations like this get dragged on. |

Yay! Throw more money at the players. Then the fans can pay more money so that the owners can afford to pay the players more money. Then they can raise prices again!

Damn the rest of the roster huh? Maybe you should worry about your own team. They're working on getting bigger right? I hear Nathan Gerbe is available. Should add some much needed muscle. |

Well then before making a comment like that shouldn't that type of situation ACTUALLY HAPPEN. It's still the offseason yet the Blues are mistreating Pietro? |

Fixed.
Blues have been patient with RFA's and as a result end up signing them for below what many expect. We haven't lost any players or have any evidence to suggest we've angered any players with this practice. Blues are one of the youngest teams in the league, and one of only two teams to have been in the top 6 of the NHL standings point wise each of the last 2 years. We don't need to follow the example of non-playoff teams whose practices have them in cap trouble. We're doing just fine. |

I hate how forwards dressed as defencemen like Subban, Letang, and Karlsson are getting Norris nods. Pay no attention to actual defense like Shea Weber, just look at offensive stats, great idea... - TheJerseyDevil1
Nailed it. Weber should have won 3 years ago but it's hard to ever say Lidstrom shouldn't win. However, Karlsson over Weber, especially that year, was a farce. I never see Subban so I don't know if he was deserving. I was just glad Suter didn't win. |

What about paying more to watch some crap team?
Petro is going to be paid. By the Blues. Still doesn't mean that you just throw money at him before you need to. Honestly, I don't believe that the Blues need to right now with Petro. Teams have had a chance to give him a big offersheet. They haven't. He didn't have arbitration rights. Right now, the Blues are in the driver seat, so if he wants to get paid big money soon, his best shot with his current situation is going to be to take a bridge deal and earn a monster contract in a year or two when he has more leverage.

I didn't believe the Jets could be that stupid. And all they wanted in return was a useless munchin in Gionta, Louis Leblanc? Mark Tinordi? and a 2nd round pick? The Jets will be returned to Atlanta if they make that stupid trade. |

Yes were all very familiar. Players love it when they hear "Philly is interested" means they are gonna get paid exactly what they want, maybe more. |
