Calgary has no top-3 offensive players and no top pairing defensemen. They are a good 4-5 years from being a playoff contender. |

Yeah. He got hammered on Iginla and Bouwmeester. Needed more return. The drafting this year was great. 2012 and 2011 don't look good. - BodyCheckRadio
2011 actually looks quite strong so far. Baertchi, Granlund, Gaudreau, Wotherspoon etc. |

Yep, the word "Playoff" should not be discussed on these forums for at least 3 years. Draft lottery, prospects and early golf are the new buzz words

I've been a big supporter of Feaster. I wasn't a fan of the O'Reilly contract but it all worked out. What I was a big fan of was hiring Bob Hartley and the crew. When they decided they wanted to play uptempo hockey, and targeted Hudler, Wideman, Cervenka to fit in that system... it gave me hope that they were cooking something nice.
Sutter always seemed so short sighted. |

2011 for baertschi at 11 looked fine to me.
And I liked the trade down for 2nd to get seiloff. Wether jankowski was the right choice now one can say. But the team Canada invite is a step in the right direction at least.

this again really...Iginla would only go to one team what was he supposed to do? And one year ago people were wanting to buyout Jaybo. A 1st, a good D prospect, and a goalie prospect with 7 million off the books isn't good enough now |

Is Calgary headed in the right direction? Yes. Could they have started this process much sooner? Yes.
Feaster shot himself in the foot by not going into a full blown rebuild when the writing was already on the wall and everyone else but him (apparently) could read it. I'm not sure if that was an edict passed down to him from ownership or what, but he could have brought in more picks and prospects to kickstart the rebuild than he did.
In the process of doing so (when they should have), the flames probably could have picked in the top 3 at least twice in the last three or four years. It would seem that management has finally decided to rebuild from within, and they deserve credit for doing so (especially when one considers some of the stars the flames have had very recently). The problem is that they may have stunted their rebuild a couple of years by clinging to the edge instead of just taking the leap into obscurity for the sake of draft picks.
I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't mention that I understand that mentality all too well as an Oilers fan. The oilers could be a playoff team right now if they hadn't made the same mistake of clinging to mediocrity when it was obvious to most a rebuild and a house cleaning were in order.
Overall grade since 2010: C+ (Due to a couple questionable draft picks and a late rebuild) |

I assume you are gonna say Jankowski...but what other draft picks are questionable? and the Oilers should have been a playoff team by now they are not the model to follow. It takes more than skilled forwards to win at the NHL level |

Wow! I never realized how weak Calgary is at the center position. How do you you as Flames fans feel these guys are going to do at center and which one of those is your number one center? - Dangles

What are you talking about?
2011: Baertschi, Granlund, Wotherspoon, Johnny freakin' Gaudreau and Broissoit.
2012: Jankowski and Sieloff making steady improvement, Gillies, Kulak, Culkin all showing promise. Even Gordon and Deblouw are looking good for 6 and 7 rnd's.

And the stay at home dman might be the best guy in that draft for the Flames. Wotherspoon, Sven and Johnny Hockey looks pretty good 2 year later. Best draft they've had in about 20 years. |

nah, they're gong to trade their first rounder to stock up on 2015 first rounders (would love 3 1st rounders in that draft).
I wouldn't mind if they took nick ritchie <--- calling it early on

I don't get the negativity on Janko. He is just 18 and already has a full year of NCAA Div1 under his belt and played well for a true freshman.
Is Ollie Matta really the answer to all the Flames problems? Give the kid a break |

He should of...either they decided against having him around as a 3rd string or he declined. Sincerely thought that he would get an invite. But Ive been wrong before |
