Fair enough. 8 years/58mill is a hell of a contract for a non-superstar though.

He is on the high end of Elite, I still see too many defensive mistakes to say he is more than that right now.

So basically there are no more than 5 D superstars in the whole league. That's a very tight, but fair definition. Hopefully the Leafs can get one some day... I'm looking in your general direction, Reilly!

I don't mind hockey broadcasters and reporters using the term elite...... they rarely use it unless it is warranted. What does get to me is how they throw around the "great" player.

Great is head and shoulders above the rest...... yet if you watch or listen to a game, you'll hear them describe at least half a dozen players on each team as being great. Some of them are pure slugs.

I don't get it, feel good that they have just under nine million to sign Fraser, Franson, and Kadri? Doesn't sound too peachy. 4 plus for Frans, probly 3-4 at least for Kadri, and with Fraser, looking around the LEague, I'm guessing 2 million. If they get real lucky they could sign them all.

Kadri is not getting more than 3 million. Fraser will get no more than 1 to 1.2 million

Thats just it......... there is no market for him to be compared to. He has had one good HALF season. And thats it. He will get a two year contract anywhere from 2.5 to 2.75 million per season.

If there's no market how can you be so sure?

There no market in that you can't compare him really to anyone else. He and his agent can't compare themselves to players who have 3 or 4 years of NHL experience and the numbers to back it up. They have half a season of ammunition.

If you sign Kadri longer you can end up saving more in the longrun.
