Cause he was matched up against the Krejci line, their best offensive unit.
I"m not overstating his value, just pointing out that clearly, Randy Carlyle thinks he's better defensively, or he would not have used him the way he did.
And we are in agreement he is better offensively. - Big_Lightnin
Yes. If used correctly Grabovski is certainly more skilled offensively than Bozak. He can create plays on his own, and most of Bozak's points come off opportunities created by Kessel, or even Lupul when they were together. I have a hard time believing that Bozak would be successful playing with Kuli, Mac or any other guy like Grabo was for 2 years before this.
Side note yes Grabo had a tough matchup, but he still faltered badly. He just is not cut out for a defensive role. |

he had more defensive starts than Bozak. Grabo was matched up against the other teams top offensive line consistently all season, and in the playoffs.
I'm not saying he did a great job, but Carlyle kept putting him out there in that situation.
Why would he do that if he felt Bozak was better defensively and Grabo was better offensively? wouldn't it make more sense to switch them? Something Carlyle never did? He didn't, because Bozak is not as sound defensively as many like to believe.
This is why the PK system consisted of "ok bozak, win the faceoff then get the (frank) off the ice as fast as you can" - Big_Lightnin
You keep saying Grabs was out there against the best players on other teams...like he was alone or something. It was the Grabs Line that was out there, and that has included Kulemin more often than not. Carlisle may have simply decided that he would rather have a Grabs/Kuli/Mac line out there to defend, rather than the Kessel or Kadri lines. Not because they're all that great at it (because they're only so-so), but because they're better than our lines.
It's not just about Bozak vs. Grabs...but more the Bozak line vs the Grabs line. |

Don't even ask - he's going to tell you that Grabs is better because he had more points a couple years ago. These are the same guys that will avoid the Grabovski / Bozak conversation like the plague when Bozak puts up close to 60pts this year.

To me the number one issue with the leafs that is fixable is our defence. There is no available solution to the 1C problem right now.
If you look at our top 6 the only real stay at home guy is Fraser. Having all these offensive minded D might be good for the GF but right now we are looking at another year of A LOT of pucks at our Goalies. Better hope we win a lot of games 6-5.
Not saying this is the answer but I would be looking at bringing the still available Hainsey on a short deal and moving out JML to make cap space. I know likely not possible to fit Hainsey under the cap and move out JML but that is the kind of move I would be trying to work out. The mixture of our D pairings needs to be tweaked IMO.
Or maybe they are thinking someone like Granberg is just about ready so they are just trying to be patient?? |

I think that is why they are so high on Granberg. |

Even in disagreement, I have so much more respect for you as a poster after engaging with these two schleprok's for an hour.

Stop putting Reilly in mock line ups! He's not ready yet. Grannberg will make the jump this season. |

Take a look at each year...he has trended up in points (never regressing).
if that continues this year her should be close to 60.
I am not making up this poop. |

Doubt it, I just don't see it.
He progressed more due to (a) being a rookie at what 24 and also reagaining his health( he had h1n1 at the start) and (b) playing with kessel. I don't know that he's gotten much better as much as the guys he's playing with have gotten better. I just think he's plateaued.
I sure hope he scores 20+ g and 60pts, but its not likely. He's living off his linemates. |

I think it's more likely he comes close to 60pts then not, based on his career trending as well as who he will play with.
Don't get me wrong, I still am not thrilled that the guy playing on the Leafs 1C will top out at around 60pts playing with Kessel. I am just stating that it appears that Bozak will come close to 60, that's all. |

It's sad that its the hope that #1c might get to 60pts..... So sad. But I just don't see it. |
