Today is the 14th anniversary of the death of Dimitri Tertyshny. That kid was going to be a good NHLer. Damned shame

Jagr's contract is pretty funny.
Base salary of $2M, then gets a $250k bonus for every 5 games he plays in.

- Marc D

That's borderline insulting

I did. I thought his shot with Richie's passing ability would make a very good line.

That being said. A first round pick was a pretty steep price for a guy having a bad year.

Considering they turned around and flipped him for a second rounder and third rounder, it wasn't that big a deal.

Sure except that Mason had great numbers in front of the same D albeit a small sample. I understand that this is difficult because everyone has been making excuses for Bryz for two years but every other team in the world can't be wrong about this guy can they? They've all determined he's not good enough to play at the highest levels so maybe its as simple as that and its not Briere not back checking.
- lar6767

Now you're making a different argument. First you incorrectly accuse Bill of making excuses for Bryzgalov. How about when Bryzgalov was player of the Month in March. Those numbers were posted earlier in this thread. Using Mason's 7 games is not a good example to use. Let's see Mason play here over an extended time. Noone is arguing that Bryzgalov didn't get it done here. It's just that you're falsely accusing Bill Meltzer, and labeling his statements incorrectly.

Serious question:

to Philly:
Cody Franson + Joe Colborne

To Leafs

Coutourier

just wondering.

If they wouldn't trade him for Shea Weber, why would they trade him for them 2?

If the reports were that Jagr was waiting for the Flyers, I just dont understand why He just didn't sign until later in the season. I mean not only is it a full season, which he starting to struggle with in 11-12, It is an olyimpic year, and he played in the SCFs for a short off-season.

If he was smart, he would take off until the Olyimpics, sign a contract then play in the Olyimpics, come back to NHL in shape, and rested, to the Flyers, or another team looking to make a post-season push....

That makes sense, but I think Jags is too proud to do that. He also feels that he can play a full season because of the shape he's in.

For future reference. The Flyers will not trade Couturier unless it's PART OF A PACKAGE for a young top pairing defenseman.

To be fair, it was BSchenn and Couturier and I think a pick. Either way, Franson isn't a top pairing/#1 dman, and that's the only type of player Coots is getting traded for.

I don't think they'd trade Couts for a guy who hasn't played a full season yet.

Some people are higher on Franson than others. I agree he's a 3/4 tops. Was just curious of perceived value.

Couturier is coming off of a down year. I think most fans would rather keep him than trade him after a down season. That's probably why value amongst Flyers fans is much higher than other people's.

I don't believe that's true... There's only 1 Leaf fan on this site that doesn't think Gardiner is probably a future top pairing D (soon) and most would trade him for Coutourier in a heartbeat, depending on what else was included.

Having Rielly helps though. Without Rielly in system, probably wouldn't consider it.

some trades I would support happening
Coots +++ for Pietrangelo
Coots ++ for OELarsson
Coots + for Hamilton
Coots for Rielly + (some small asset, just on the basis that he isn't NHL proven yet)
Coots + for Gardiner ++ (just cause he won't be a stud like Rielly, but I definitely see him being a great #2 guy)
You guys have 2 really valuable young dmen. Which of these trades would you most like to see happen?

nope.

was doing Gardiner instead of Franson.

so Gardiner + Colborne for Couts.

I say Colborne because I assume an NHL ready C is required in return on a low cap hit.
