areed but management feels bernier is a stud. Obviously. Point is when you looked at the leafs, goaltending didn't seem to be the issue just like it was then. But an upgrade (hopefully) will put us over the hump. - clark_griswold
I think Lewikie thinks BErniers a stud more than Nonis does... the way that guy talks about him youd think hes brodeur... i think its still Reimers spot to lose |

Having two young, really good goalies is one of those good problems. Frattin and Scrivens aren't as rare to acquire as a possible top goalie. The Leafs were able to trade up to a more blue chip type player because they have a decent stock of very good but not quite blue chip prospects. LA had to move Bernier because no one could have seen how insane Quick was going to play.
Now the goalies can battle it out, and/or save our ass when one gets injured. If one guy goes full on-his-head for a long stretch of time and is the clear number one but the other guy is still really good, that's a real valuable piece to trade. In the meantime with two of them there for now the Leafs will possibly have solid goaltending this year. |

Leafs are in a very good situation with 2 goalies - but Im not sure how JBernier will react to all the media scrutiny - we know that James can handle it |

The problem here is an upgrade in one area may diminish another, cap and all. So they are faced with a situation where they can't even sign the defensmen they had, and that ws the area that needed the biggest improvement. |

The real question for me is how hot is Bernier's wife, and will she and April Reimer make out when the Leafs win a playoff round. |

The only they can move him for is picks or prospects which is fine, but I want to see the cup come to TO, and right now Reimer is the better goalie. - aminnes
I think reimer is solid, but saying he's better than bernier is tough unless you have watched a lot of bernier, I haven't. POint is bernier is a 6th overall pick so has a better projection than reimer. His #s have been great (on a great team) however reimer played well (not outstanding by any means) in 7 games vs boston.
The leafs have obviously scouted bernier enough before the deal, and he certainly hasn't done anything to diminish his 6th overall pick; playing behind quick is about where every goalie in the league would be.
to avoid the circus, go with bernier. |

If it turns out like when the Habs had Halak and Price, I'll take that for sure
Just so long as it doesn't turn out like when the Leafs had Rask and Pogge |

if it were reimer's spot to lose, they would have worked out a cheaper contract with bernier (with LA's permission) than giving him the deal they did. |

I can tell you one thing, I won't be letting the girl-friend walk around unsupervised with this David Clarkson guy in town. I thought contending with Arencibia was bad enough. |

Here's the counterpoint. Right now reimer's stock is pretty good i'd say, especially with his modest cap hit. You could move him for a solid return (not spectacular) and avoid the circus, giving bernier his due. If reimer outduels bernier, everyone looks bad and you have to move a 3 mil goalie that blew it. If bernier outduels reimer, reimer's stock falls as again, he hasn't proven much (I love the kid personally).
I would move reimer before the season to avoid this. They've made their bed with bernier. THe one thing I like is all I hear is LA fans say he's a great goalie and better than reimer (instead of the usual 'we gave you guys a bum'). - clark_griswold
So you move Reimer.
I would then consider Thomas but will he sign a contract for 1.5~2mil per year. |

Better today. Bernier's nums are okay but playing in front of a way better team also, and has never handled a big work load as of yet. Reims is coming off a 7th in the league save on a weaker d and played 35 of 37 as a rookie. I can't see how anyone can't see that he's better. The only thing Bernier has over him is his draft placement, is Torres better than Zetterburg because he was drafted 4th overall? |

Nobody has. He's never played 4 games in a row before. It's scary that people think we should trade Reimer and use this guy from the get go because he is projected to be better. If he's that good, he can earn it. But they shouldn't give it to the guy with less experience. |
