Thats a (frank)ing terrible cap hit. And this is why now signing bozak and gunner to terrible deals will ruin the signings of franson and kadri. Who should of been signed first. Thanks Nonis I like where his priorities are.
- Mapleleafs_91

Unless that was the plan all along. Spend money on everyone else and force them to take what's left. I'm sure we've offered them a contract at least once by now. Now, it's take what we have left or sit at home eating Doritos.

Let me put this in better terms. Franson > Gunner. Therefore, should of been signed first.
- Mapleleafs_91

Not sure I agree with you here. Gunnar is far more reliable defensively.

Different players. Franson = points, PP, sheltered minutes, Gunnarsson = stable, shutdown minute-muncher. If anything, this could help us sign Franson to something reasonable because it's not always about points.

Gunner played terrible this year and got tossed against boston. Hes easilyreplaceable

Higher then I thought, don't have a clue what Nonis has in store to be honest. Could move Franson, could move Dion, could move Liles (probably get garbage back). Not sure what he has planned to fill out this roster.

He was also hurt for pretty much the entire year. We've seen what he can do when healthy.

He provides a cool presence for Dion. Something that is sorely needed for him. Anyone we ask to play this role will ask at least 3 million. He's going to play top 4 if not top 2 minutes.

He's not the end all be all of the top 4 but he's a stable guy whom I don't mind playing at all - when healthy of course.

I expect he'll be back to his steady ways soon enough. I can appreciate some people's apprehension to this, though.

Liles and reimer need to be packaged. It's obvious bernier is the #1 considering he makes 1 mil more than reimer. You don't sit him on the bench for that. I don't know how nonis pulls this one off but may have to move a pick along with reimer and liles for a large ticket Dman; just not many out there and not many teams that need a goalie (Calgary?). Hate moving picks but our time to make a move/run is now not in a few years. Move one of the D prospects (finn, percy, blacker, etc if you have to).

I also wouldn't be surprised if kule was dealt and colborne fills in his spot along mcclemant and bolland. I like kule's 2 way game but his deal is up next year and we will need to free up room to resign bolland / mcclemant even with the cap going up.

This will be a tough spot for us to get out of, but as much as I love the character and improvements we've added, without an upgrade over liles (who is a capable dman just doesn't fit in with us) we won't get by the 2nd round.

Question:
If we trade this reamer guy - who plays behind Bernier? Gotta be someone good if you're willing to move your insurance policy for a guy who hasn't even played 1 full year yet?

Then where will we get someone as good as reamer at his current price?

Simply a veteran capable backup. You don't trade what we gave up for bernier, and sign him to nearly 3 mil if you aren't sold he's a #1. Reimer is not the starting goalie next year, if he is, imagine the deal he asks for when his contract is up and he goes 'well bernier, my backup, gets $3 mil per'

Not really. Match any offer under 5.046 for Kadri, and depending on the team a little higher. If a team that is bad offer sheets Kadri at over 5.046 I guess you have to let him go for a 1st 2nd and a 3rd.

Franson anything over 3.364 let him go. Like him but would take the 1st and 3rd comp.

Deal with Fraser after you have dealt with those 2.

I actually think it's pretty reasonable. Gunner is a pretty steady defensive dman which makes him all that much more valuable to the leafs. I also think it's harder to sign guys like franson and kadri to cost effective salaries after the year that they both had. More leverage for the players means longer negotiations to get a deal that works for both the team and player. I thought fraser would be the first to sign out those 4 to be honest.

If they can't unload Liles on someone this means Phaneuf is gone. He may be gone anyway. I can't see the Leafs having the cap to sign both Phaneuf and Kessel... Those two will cost 15 million between them.
