Not the same though, Cujo was a proven and amazing goalie for the Blues and Oilers. Bernier hasn't played more than 4 games in a row. Totally different. - aminnes
areed but management feels bernier is a stud. Obviously. Point is when you looked at the leafs, goaltending didn't seem to be the issue just like it was then. But an upgrade (hopefully) will put us over the hump. |

The Leafs misused him at first under Wilson - he was a top dman for the Preds
Now he is coming back into form - MTL1
I agree. I think Carlyle's coaching & pairing him with up with Fraser, really helped Franson come into his own. |

I've got to disagree. Reimer has consistently improved, so long as you don't count the season after Gionta's fly-by. If he continues to evolve and pushes himself to the next level the Leafs could conceivably flip Bernier. On the other hand if Bernier reaches his potential, which many in the game believe to be elite, and Reimer stands pat then Reimer could fetch a good return as he is a good starting goalie.
I think Nonis will let them duke it out this season and move the goalie that doesn't win the net. - BetterCallSaul
Here's the counterpoint. Right now reimer's stock is pretty good i'd say, especially with his modest cap hit. You could move him for a solid return (not spectacular) and avoid the circus, giving bernier his due. If reimer outduels bernier, everyone looks bad and you have to move a 3 mil goalie that blew it. If bernier outduels reimer, reimer's stock falls as again, he hasn't proven much (I love the kid personally).
I would move reimer before the season to avoid this. They've made their bed with bernier. THe one thing I like is all I hear is LA fans say he's a great goalie and better than reimer (instead of the usual 'we gave you guys a bum'). |

I think reimer is okay despite the rebound. Again, I've only seen bernier play 3 games. But we can sit on here and make fantasy trades, rosters, etc but the gms make the decisions and just like you said, the gm doesn't seem to have faith in reimer.
im not saying that bernier is better as ive seen him not nearly enough. Im saying he's the #1 as it 's obvious by management's behaviour of the situation. - clark_griswold
Sounds about right. Although at this point, I disagree with it. But my stance can change.
I just don't see any reason why Reimer can't be the starter.

You guys think our three Yankees can make their squad? I think Kessel is a lock, JVR should make it but could fall out of favour and Gardiner could surprise. |

Its a Lewieke trade no doubt. Nonis was looking for a vet backup. The goaltending was fine, and I am fine with Bernier on the outset, but with their cap issues now exposed, and the optics of how they are treating Reims makes it kinda dumb IMO. Bernier, has desired to get the opportunity Reims earned through proving it, and now is coming in to usurp the guy, not his fault, but management might have been wiser to avoid the circus and distraction that is surely to unfold. |

Move him for what? So trade away the cheap guy for a more expensive alternative, all the while having no space to get anything of value back? |

It's Bernier's oppourtunity now to finally show what he can do. I just like the fact that we have BOITH Bernier & Reimer. Makes me feel better that were are not solely dependant on just one of them. |

the situation is already done, you already have an expensive backup no matter who you keep. I don't think I would have made the bernier trade but im not the gm. Hopefully he steals the show. I think reimer would fetch a decent return based on age and cap hit. |

I was a Squirtle guy, myself. You can tell a lot about a guy from which starter he chose. - BetterCallSaul
I'd take Pikachu if I could, but if I remember correctly, that only happens in the show
Which means Charmander is the way to go. What does that say about me? I'm hot? |

The only they can move him for is picks or prospects which is fine, but I want to see the cup come to TO, and right now Reimer is the better goalie. |

Unnecessary controversy. Something that was finally gone for one full season. Cushy cap - gone too. |

Mike - enjoy your posts ... One question (or suggestion) - When you add to or update an original thread, is there any way to provide a new starting point for responses?
This thread now has three separate story lines and to review comments or join discussion on the latest (Gunnarsson) there is no reasonable way to find where new comments started.
Separate thread or other option? - moleinone
Can't do that, find a topic or post you wish to respond to and someone will discuss it with you, that is how it works around here, you may have several topics floating around at any given time. |
