Tell that to Trevor Linden. Was barely even a star and has been immortalized. - Boinker
Meh.
I've heard that Trevor was on the receiving end of some less than respectful treatment from the current Canucks regime.
It's the fans that have "immortalized" him. And it's for more than his performance as a player. |

yeah. died at 36. had a lot left in him.
he died like 5 months after that concert I think. I remember they opened his casket and buried him with a big branch of marijuana placed in a superman pillow case. still makes me laugh. - bloatedmosquito
That dude had the fire. Didn't know that about the gunja bag. Fitting to say the least. |

didn't stop the team from tossing him out so they can welcome a declining star that tore out the hearts of a fan base. it was just wrong. god I hate messier.
I think trevor embodied what every fan wants out of their team's players. someone who does their best with the talents they have and does it with class. |

Yeah Vedder's voice was awesome too. I also loved Scott Weiland's voice for pure grunge.
It's funny, I knew guys that caught that dark side of Nirvana's tunes, like you seemed to, but I also heard the pop melodies underneath that made the tunes seem more uplifting. It wasn't a surprise in the slightest when I found out Cobain was a huge Beatles fan. - AlexF
Yah, None of my immediate friends were taken by Nirvana and Cobains story in particular, But I met several people through people that unfortunately fell into the same hole I did.
As for the music, The simple melodies they played combined with his haunting voice is what really bothered me. But like I said, that shyt is all behind me.
Its nice to be able to listen to brilliant music and not overthink as if it was taking over my life. |

The anti-obstruction era was just a set-up for what we have now. Back then they were calling millions of penalties each game and often nobody knew what they were for. We were told it was for the good of the game, to make it more entertaining. Conditioned us for what we have today which is fewer penalties but neither the fans or the players have any idea what the standards are for any infraction or what they'll be calling at any given time.
Gave the league and the refs a wonderful toolbox to work with. - YeOldTimer
Yeah, the inconsistency of the officiating definitely seasoned the fans to expect consistently horrible officiating...
I still say that most who've watched the game for long enough can see that no matter how poor it was before, the level of inconsistency is off the charts now in comparison.
Really makes you wish that the appeal system they've discussed goes through at one of these GM/Owners meetings.
But I'm sure there's a reason it hasn't... |

Anyways Back to hockey! - vancity787
but it's so far away!
The one big mystery for me is the coaching. All I'm asking for is getting our young players some NHL experience. No mind games. No punishment. just good professional development.
I've always read that Torts is great with young players. |

Seems like it but some would argue he did not handle Hagelin very well last year.
Its all in perspective. |

well if you ask me, players should be retired based more on fan base than head of staff. We pay the bills and we should decide who is and who isn't worthy.
If someone means so much to a city then they should be considered eligible.
Remember, retirement has a ton to do with out of rink work. Bure is the exception, because he was so insanely ridiculously talented.
And he deserves it regardless of the hardship left from his absence. |

At the summer summit gillis said "At the end of the day, we had to make a choice and we made the choice to go to Roberto."
Wow, what a bunch of poop. The reason they kept Lu was they had no choice. - bloatedmosquito
That isn't true. They had choices. They could have bought him out or they could have traded him and retained a portion of his salary and cap hit. Owners were too cheap to buy him out and trading Schneider made more sense than retaining a chunk of Luongo's salary. |

For sure. It wasn't a choice between 2 attractive options, but it was a decision they made. Lu is still a great goalie and Horvat looks like a great prospect to have. |
