A few hilights from the Season Ticket Holders Q and A that took place tonight (video is available on Youtube) ;

-The Sedins WILL be re-signed this season (from Gillis himself).

-Gillis and Tortorella are both really high on Horvat (what else are they going to say...but it seemed very genuine).

-The NHL doesn't think there's a problem with the officiating and doesn't care (paraphrase from Bill Daly).

-Brule will not get a PTO with Vancouver.

-Tortorella once made Pavel Kubina cry (from Tortorella himself).

- Fosco

Problem with officiating? What problem? They've worked their asses off to get it to this point and we should be grateful. After years of careful planning and positioning, they can now, for the most part and in the majority of cases, control the score and outcome of the games. Really, they're just doing us fans a favor by keeping things as close as possible to boost our viewing pleasure.

So what if we get a little pissy once in a while about the way officials call a particular game. The refs are well-paid employees of the league and hating on them is a hockey tradition. No big deal compared to the massive benefits the league gains through their 'game management' tactics.

You think NBC's going to give up prime air time to show hockey, if they're not certain people are going to be tuned in for the full 3 hours?

Daryl Sutter's now famous quote, "It's a 3-2 league." Gee I wonder how that happened?

Did Gillis mention if he's already gotten the Aquilini's to agree to donate $1.5MM to Children's Hospital? If they do it directly then the Sedins can sign at a bigger home town discount and Gillis retains the much needed cap space.

Yeah, pretty much this...

My wife likes to piss me off by saying that hockey is rigged and predetermined like the WWE.....unfortunately it's actually starting to look that way.

At the summer summit gillis said "At the end of the day, we had to make a choice and we made the choice to go to Roberto."

Wow, what a bunch of poop. The reason they kept Lu was they had no choice.

My favorite band of all time. Those guys music can sometimes seriously put me in a trance. I own so much nirvana memorabilia it's enough to make some people sick.
- vancity787

I'm 34. I got into Nirvana in High School. Just like you I loved classic rock but the grunge age I felt was undeniably my generation's voice, and Cobain was the head spokesman. Modern music just doesn't have any parallels. The industry has gone gutless.

Fair enough.

Even the token brush off response that I posted is less insulting to the fans' intelligence than simply saying there's nothing wrong.

It's not like they didn't admit there were issues several years ago when they claimed they were going to start enforcing the clutching, grabbing, and hooking. Unfortunately, they've reversed that decision...

- Fosco

If I remember correctly it was during the 2011 finals.....

wow

speaking of pop stars, I was secretly looking forward to the Freddy Mercury movie with sacha cohen playing the lead. but sacha quit so who knows.

I'll always remember Live Aid. He put on a great show. Biggest fruitcake in the business but not many people could command a venue like Wembley.

Check out the documentary '20 minutes that changed music'

I will.

And I agree, Freddie was a champ.

I agree. That's why we always go back to the classics.

Now you all got me thinking about music. If you like reggae at all check out Babylon By Bus. Best live compilation album ever.

They had to take more control of the outcomes and get hockey to be more like basketball. Predictable consistency was the only way they were ever going to get the national television contract Gary's been desperately chasing all these years.

We've also been told that the salary cap was necessary to create cost-certainty for the owners so they could keep non-traditional markets viable. Nope. It had more to do with creating better league parity.

NBC: "Our research shows casual fans won't stay tuned if their beloved ******* are down 5-1 to start the third."

Gary: "I believe you'll find we've addressed that problem."

Conveniently enough...

I seem to remember something about slowing the game down to reduce head shots.

So that worked well...

Will check it out. Thanks. BTW I went through a massive Bob Marley phase. Ironic that his best live album (IMO) was his last concert ever (in Pittsburgh)

couldn't have put it better myself

His voice along with Vedder and Stayleys were the voice of a generation. Cobain was diffinitley head of the pack tho.

His music had some fukking crazy affects on me, both good and bad.

Not gunna lie. My fascination with him in high school steered me down a pretty scary road. But I can listen to there music nowadays and feel completely fine with myself

Even then they couldn't make Phoenix work...

If only there was some way to make hockey more entertaining and watchable.....maybe properly enforcing the rules and improving the on ice product...

yeah. died at 36. had a lot left in him.

he died like 5 months after that concert I think. I remember they opened his casket and buried him with a big branch of marijuana placed in a superman pillow case. still makes me laugh.

Yeah Vedder's voice was awesome too. I also loved Scott Weiland's voice for pure grunge.

It's funny, I knew guys that caught that dark side of Nirvana's tunes, like you seemed to, but I also heard the pop melodies underneath that made the tunes seem more uplifting. It wasn't a surprise in the slightest when I found out Cobain was a huge Beatles fan.

The anti-obstruction era was just a set-up for what we have now. Back then they were calling millions of penalties each game and often nobody knew what they were for. We were told it was for the good of the game, to make it more entertaining. Conditioned us for what we have today which is fewer penalties but neither the fans or the players have any idea what the standards are for any infraction or what they'll be calling at any given time.

Gave the league and the refs a wonderful toolbox to work with.
