Any team with a semi-conscious defense and Hank in net has a shot vs. anyone.
- aecliptic

Cananda is the obvious favorite but USA is not clearly second best. Russia, Sweden, Slovakia and Finland all have competitive teams heading into the tournament.

Canada does have a flaw and it's in goal. If that can be exposed, mens hockey will become very interesting in Sochi.

Jeez, you guys will bring us into another lockout if you think $5 mil is market value for stepan. Moulson had two 30 goal seasons and was given $3.3 mil for 3 years. I think stephan is comprable more to that than duchene&gagner $$. They were first rounders & projected top 3 forwards. Derek is neither or has yet to really prove that he is in that category of players. So, factor in Sather's penchant for overpaying and if DS holds out for anything above 3.8-4.0mil/yr he is being unrealistic.

Stepan plays a more influential position as a C than Moulson does as a wing and Stepan is a far better two-way player. Not sure how that impacts the $ but just saying it wouldn't surprise me if those reasons would be why Stepan would get nearer to $5M.

moulson is the product of JT. nothing more than that.

stepan made any player he played with all season better and productive.

First teams have to crack through Weber, Doughty, Seabrook, Keith, Subban and someone... before they find out how bad/good the goalie situation is. Luongo and Price should be able to hold their ground behind a D like that.

yes but they're gonna be playing the best offenses in the world. if anyone can unlock that defense, its a parise - kesler - kane line or an ovechkin - malkin - kovalchuk line or a sedin - sedin - zetterberg line or a selane - koivu - filppula line.

I called $5M for Stepan back before the playoffs started. Nearly a point per game is his negotiating leverage, lack of playoff success is his weakpoint. But if you figure that Callahan gets 4.25 as a bridge deal (and that was 4 years ago), Stepan based on production alone should be worth $5M, even if that kind of cripples us capwise. Stepan is equally as good defensively as Callahan, Cally just hits more. But Steps offensive IQ and vision is a much higher value that Cally. Cally was producing at around 45-50pts. per season when he got 4.25M. Stepan (based on projections) is 70-80pts. right now.
- xcheckmajor

I think cally has more overall value than stepan.
Plus, a higher % of his points are goals.

I'm bored at work... based on the 47 invites this would be my lineup for Canada.

Stamkos-Crosby-St. Louis
Giroux-Toews-Nash
Lucic-Bergy-Perry (awesome 3rd line)
Tavares-Eric Staal-Sharp

Doughty-Weber
Seabrook-Keith
Piertrangelo -Suban

Price
Smith
Holtby

Rosters are 25 so theres 4 extras which would be: Neal, Getzlaf, Mike Green, Letang

My god that is godly...

Letang Norris finalist not invited?

doesn't gordie clarke handle all the draft picks?

and i'm not against the richards decision. having richards makes our center depth one of the best in the league. without him, we're arguably one of the worst.

- rangerdanger94

That's a pretty extreme swing considering we are talking about
A guy who tanked big time last year...rags have 3 good #2 centers
-if BR is in the category. Not sure I'd say any of them are real #1s so it's hard to agree
That they have among the best group of centers inthe league.

i think it's in the top 10 of the league, if stepan produces like he is expected to, brassard plays like he did post deadline, and richards can put up 60 points.

but if one of those things doesn't happen, then it could be a struggle. which is why i don't mind keeping richards around as insurance. relying too much on stepan and brassard alone with a rookie like miller or lindberg as 3C could backfire...i think you'd see boyle as 3C for most of the season if richards wasn't here. f that.

That says a lot about a kid like Kristo, shows this kid has awesome locker room ability. Just hope he has awesome on ice ability to match it.

That lineup has no shot vs Canada. It will be US vs Canada again
- mighty13duck

No shot? Why the f not?

Any team w lunqvist in net and Zetterberg up front has a shot if
You ask me -let alone the other all world talent they've got.
'no shot'...where do people come up with this definitive sh!t?

I dont know what crack people are smoking...

Sedin, Sedin, Landeskog
Zetterberg, Backstrom, Franzen
Eriksson, Berglund, Hornqvist
Hagelin, Steen, Johansson/Kruger

That offense is going to be pretty good... lets not forget they have the best offensive dman in the league (Karlsson) and (OEL) a young kid that people think will be as good as him.

I give them as good as shot as any with Hank in net with that team in front of him.

just compared giroux's stats to stepan's and they are just absolute copies, giroux's 3rd nhl season he had 76 points with 25 goals and 51 assists +20
stepan's 3rd season in 48 games +25 and projected over 82 games 31 goals 44 assists 75 points, and he's way better defesively so i'm pretty confident that he will become team USA's #1 center without discussion
and i still believe we should deal DZ to buf for foligno and let's say a second round pick
then deal zuccarello and pyatt to phoenix for whatever you can get and enough room to sign stepan and the team is set

“I felt it was even more important for me to play on the Devils roster [after Kovalchuk's NHL retirement].

Jagr played 34 games with Kladno in the Czech league and another 34 with Dallas before getting dealt to Boston. From there, he appeared in 11 regular season contests with the Bruins, then 22 playoff games.

So, 101 games all told.(Isn't that a normal regular season plus playoffs?)

As such, the sure-fire Hall of Famer figures he’s in better shape heading into 2013-14, which should be a breeze compared to last year.

“That’s the most games I’ve ever played,” he explained. “(This) is going to be a short season.”(He does know the NHL hasn't switched to a 48 game season every year right?)

Could Jagr be anymore fake? Just come out and say the Devils were the only suckers to give me that much money and were desperate to do so.

Canucks hire Mike Sullivan, that makes 3 assistants for Torts, absolutely hate that stubborn dick now, he couldn't have done that with us and made it easier?

I think an asterisk needs to be put in Ranger record books for Jagr's 54 goal season.

with a side note of "2005-06, the year of the penalty. Let's face it, if Jonathan Cheechoo could score 56 in this aberration of a season, Jagr should have had at least 70"

The #NJDevils are one Damien Brunner away from being a contender in the Eastern Conference.

Some other Isles fan said Brunner with JT and Moulson would be best top line in the league, if he's so good why on July 5th otherwise known as overpayment day did this "phenom" not get paid?

personally I think the Red Wings are the smartest team in the NHL. If they made no effort to keep Brunner, I really doubt he is any teams "savior"

Wings went with the more reliable options. Brunner looked lost as the season progressed. Was also not really a factor in the playoffs.

So many idiots get gassed because of his age and the organization he is coming from. Not all Wings prospects are gems; same way not all the Rangers prospects are not overrated by its team or its fans.
