I want someone who hasn't played for the Penguins, Flyers, Capitals, Bruins and Devils to break the single season record for goals by a Ranger, which currently stands at 54.

That very well may be the case, but the Orientation Camp will not have any skating due to insurance costs, so don't foresee his attendance being an issue. This is similar for Team Canada.

Yeah, just bringing it up as a potential "push" for Stepan to want to get a contract done within the next 3 weeks. If he has the potential to make the team, maybe he doesn't wanna sour that chance by being a holdout during the national camp.

Yeah, you know how big of a fan I am of his, but this is starting to get ridicolous. Thing is, I don't see either the goal or points record being broken anytime soon.

I hope you're right, they're gonna need him playing like a star to make some noise. I was really hoping Sather had something up his sleeve to add another scorer to the top 6 but it doesn't look like its happening.

It's hard for anyone to score 50 these days.

Something happened to Nash about 12 games into the year. In the first dozen games, he was playing like a man obsessed. He had a little bit of a snake bite, but every single time he had the puck, he was a wrecking ball right through the middle, no hesitation to engage both defensemen head on. Then he was concussed when his head was smashed into the glass. After that, you could see a little hesitation in his decision making the rest of the year. I hope he comes back with that same fire he had.

Does the fact he is over 35 mean that the full value of the contract counts towards the cap?

Yes, I believe that should be the rule in play. His cap hit must equal his contract pay. And if they try to waive him to the minors, the most they can receive is a $100K benefit. I can't see Jagr playing less games than that though unless he's injured. His base cap hit will be $2M and he has a $2M bonus that activates when he's played 45 games. I believe the bonus is a full cap charge when it activates.

Thanks, but wondering if bonuses for over 35 automatically count towards cap or only if met?

As per CapGeek:

When the bonus cushion is in affect, teams can exceed the salary cap in performance bonuses by up to 7.5 percent of the salary cap's upper limit. Should performance bonuses actually earned at season's end push them past the salary cap's upper limit, the excess bonuses earned will be carried over as a penalty to the team's cap payroll the following season.

**If this is the case, why doesn't Sather sign Stepan to a $4M dollar contract with perfomance bonuses of $1M?

Hahaha, yea used to be a big fan of Jagr. With each passing team he mercenaries for, I like him less and less.

That is just awesome, they are paying two guys who skate like they have pianos on their backs, in Clowe and Jagr respectively, almost nine million dollars this season.

Desperation is a stinky cologne in Jersey lately.

We'll at least have Philly beneath us in the standings to use for cushioning as well as the Devils. We'll be nice and comfy

take this for leverage, if Stepan holds out and misses any part of the season his chances of making the Olympic squad go way down. I think Sather could do eaither a two year bride deal for $3.5-4 per or a 5 year deal simialr to McD and it would be fair for all, but Sather has real leverage with him.

I am sure Sather and Co. are working dilligently at making sure Stepan doesn't become a Dubinsky situation. Stepan is a more vital piece to this organization than Dubinsky was--although he helped them to acquire Nash--and I am sure management understands just how needed Stepan is now and for the future.

Why wait until next season? I can easily see him go their at the deadline. Anyone that thinks the Devils are a playoff berth contender are absolutely out of their minds.

I can easily name eight Eastern conference teams that are clearly better than they are. If Kovalchuk hadn't bailed they were a likely playoff contender, but now? I think I have a better shot at dunking a basketball on Dikembe Motumbo.

Editor's Note: I am a 5'6" Italian/Cuban.

On paper yes. But weird things happen in the nhl. Who thought the yotes would make the playoffs let alone wcf 2 seasons ago? They looked like a basement team on paper...same with sens a couple seasons ago and the isles last season.

Coyotes had a nice mix of youth and veteran players; Mike Smith also emerged as big time force in the second half of the season as well.

The Devils are a very old group with a serious lack of top line quality players. Defense looks old and slow and Brodeur is still considered the starter in Jersey, not Schneider.

Maybe I am getting ahead of myself here but I think they have 12th or 13th place in the conference written all over them.

This new division alignment just added a few more years to his career. Now he still needs to play for the Islanders, Hurricanes, Blue Jackets to complete the "new Metropolitan" division

I also think Zuccarello's Arbitration or potential agreement before Arbitration now takes precedent over Stepans Contract. Clearly Stepan is the more important player, but in Cap terms, Zucc is a guaranteed cap hit now that is undetermined. Sather could be waiting to see exactly how many pennies he has available after Zucc's contract to work something out with Stepan.

That lineup has no shot vs Canada. It will be US vs Canada again
- mighty13duck

Any team with a semi-conscious defense and Hank in net has a shot vs. anyone.
