Brunner has got Ville Leino written all over him
- jimbro83

Why do I have the feeling Jersey is going to sign him?

If Brunner doesn't head to Jersey, he likely will be headed for the SEL. Kid is talented but not a bonafide top six forward either. Kind of that "tweener" label Zuccarello had on him before this season.

Canucks hire Mike Sullivan, that makes 3 assistants for Torts, absolutely hate that stubborn dick now, he couldn't have done that with us and made it easier?
- cranford93

AV has that now, too. I just can't fathom why Torts didn't have more than Sully when here. The PP struggled for years. I don't get it. I liked Torts, but I just don't think I could tolerate the lack of scoring and horrid PP for another season. I would have a serious drinking problem if Torts was still here.

when Torts won the Cup in Tampa he had two assistants, one was Craig Ramsey, who was really friendly with the players and would be the one to sooth a player after Torts went all Torts on them.

I was thinking about this while watching Miracle the other day for the 100th time. Craig Patrick has the same type of role as an assistant for Herb Brooks on team USA. Torts really should have had a "good cop" along side him if he was going to continue to be an outright bastard.

He wants to correct the myriad of mistakes he made with the Rangers. Early on in Tampa, he had a good coaching staff to support him; culiminating with a Stanley Cup in 2004.

Once that coaching staff changed, he began to unravel and obviously got himself canned.

Despite him leading the Rangers to a first place conference finish in 2011-2012, his overall performance here was mediocre at best. Several bottom-seeded playoff berths, one playoff miss and a lockout shortened season that highly disappointed. While the results this passed season didn't solely hinge on his coaching failures it, above anything else, magnified his mule-like stubborness and his failure to properly motivate several vital Rangers.

All in all, getting fired could be a good thing for his career going forward. It allowed him to make the necessary change in his coaching philosophy and perhaps will soften his stance in Vancouver. I hope he doesn't change at all because I am eagerly anticipating nightly drama with the Sedins and Luongo, popcorn in hand.

FYI, Nashville is allowed to trade Shea Weber now, it has been one year since they matched his offer sheet.

Is Jagr's bonus just another attempt by Lou to circumvent the cap? Jagr may be old but I'd expect him to play at least 45 games easy

Brad Lukowich, a member of the 2004 Stanley Cup Lightning team and again in 2007, was quoted as saying that Tortorella needs that good cop coach on his staff to succeed. Players don't respond to getting brow beaten without relief of some sort.

Nobody can deny Tortorella's knowledge of the game and coaching smarts; it's his people skills that severely lack and something that has been the catalyst in losing several coaching spots.

Maybe they scratch him at Game 44 and then trade him to another team. I can see slimy Lamoriello instructing DeBoer to do something like that.

No, 35+ contracts are structured like that now. Iginla has a base salary of 4.2 million but can earn up to 6 million if he reaches his incentives.

Do incentives count against the cap? Sounds like a silly question, but how does a team prepare for that? Leave 2M in cap space open for that "just-in-case" scenario?

just compared giroux's stats to stepan's and they are just absolute copies, giroux's 3rd nhl season he had 76 points with 25 goals and 51 assists +20
stepan's 3rd season in 48 games +25 and projected over 82 games 31 goals 44 assists 75 points, and he's way better defesively so i'm pretty confident that he will become team USA's #1 center without discussion
and i still believe we should deal DZ to buf for foligno and let's say a second round pick
then deal zuccarello and pyatt to phoenix for whatever you can get and enough room to sign stepan and the team is set

- webleedblue

Giroux and step are 2 very different players, despite those stats.
I dont see step getting 90 pts this year, for one.
Stepan is a good two way player with great hockey sense.
Giroux is an elite offensive talent.
Apples and oranges.

Total Bonuses are calculated at the end of the season for the entire team. Each team has a "performance bonus cushion" which allows the team to exceed 7.5% of the cap limit. If total bonuses paid out by the team at the end of the year exceed the cap + 7.5% cushion, then everything above that carries over to the following year's cap as a starting penalty.

Every team essentially has another $4.8225M in bonus cap cushion. So my question is why doesn't Sather offer Stepan a $4M contract thats filled with $2M in attainable bonuses? The acceptable bonus categories are very broad in the CBA, you can have "general bonuses" based on really any stat. Give him a 20 goal 30 assist 50pt. bonus of $1M. Then give him a top 3 scorer on the team bonus of another $1M. Call it a day.

Also, I thought about it and I'm guessing NHL bonuses are taxed just like regular bonuses in the US. So they probably see about 50% of it disappear from that.

Note: JT Miller’s Wrist Is Better But Not 100%

July 24th, 2013 12:24 pm
JT Miller spoke with the Rangers website recently and said that while his injured wrist is doing better, he is not yet at 100%.

He did say that his wrist isn’t stopping him from doing anything in his offseason workouts and that he would be able to play if the season started right now.

Miller said that the injury came at a time when he was starting to feel comfortable at the NHL level and something that caused him to make mistakes when he tried to play through it.

He has been dealing with a wrist issue since March and was sent home during the playoffs to allow his wrist to heal.

Gordie Clark has said that if Miller was healthy he would have played in the playoffs.

Lol, I can understand a sprained wrist not allowing you to shoot the puck or mishandle it in strength conditions, but come on JT, spraining your wrist doesn't cause your brain to throw passes up the middle that get picked off, or make lateral passes at your own blue line that cause odd man rushes the other way, lol.

Don't get me wrong, JT will be an awesome player, but he's gotta learn what works and what doesn't work when playing at the NHL level. There are tons of things I can do playing in my league that would be completely taken apart when your playing against 5 NHL level players that eat soft mistakes for breakfast.

I'll be getting it. I actually just got a PS3 and have been playing the NHL 13 game a lot. I am starting to get decent. I play with the NHL 94 controls because I didn't like the buttons they default the game with.
