He's probably going to be on the 1st line! lol Especially playing with Elias with the olympics coming up.

What are you guys even looking at now...

L1: Elias Zajac Jagr

L2: Clowe Henrique Ryder

L3: Josefson Loktionov Zubrus

L4: Olesz Gionta Bernier

Pressbox: Carter Tedenby Barch

Someone has to be waived/sent down to the AHL and your 4th line will most likely be a mixture of all 6 of the players on the bottom 2 lines.

That L3 would be the softest in hockey. There is no way Josefson deserves a roster spot over Carter. Start him in Albany and see if he can consistenly contribute.

Montreal? Is that in Canada? Did they make the playoffs last year? Oh...ok.

You didn't take into account the losses of David Clarkson and Alexei Ponikarovsky though. Those 2 players were a big part of alot of your "down low" possession. You essentially replaced those two with Clowe and Ryder and now looks to be replacing Kovalchuk with Jagr. I watched a lot of hockey last year, all 3 of the games Leafs vs Devils games. We took the series 6 points to 0 because we would just outlast your possession and let you play the perimeter game and it would amount to nothing. Then, just counter and score when the chances present themselves.

You have to play that possession game when your team lacks speed. You won't be a team that's easy to beat. Especially with a goaltending tandem like Brodeur and Schneider. But I just don't think the Devils are going to have the guns to keep up with an intense division with Pittsburgh,Philly,Washington,Carolina. Even the Islanders are on the up-swing.

Zubrus also missed most of the season, which is why we got Poni in the first place. Having him back is better than Poni. We won't have a problem on the boards. We have 4 representative lines and a much better PP. The puck possession will result in more goals than last year. Schneider's presence enables us to have someone who actually stops big scoring chances the other way.

Pittsburgh's great, Philly has questionable goaltending, Washington's good as long as Ovechkin is right, the Islanders defense is still weak, Carolina's team defense is lousy. I think we're going to be ok.

Well, this is good. We're better with him than without him, and he won't be making another team better. They're most likely going to leave that last spot open for grabs. They'll try teddy, Olesz, Boucher, and worst case scenario even try Henrique. Our center situation is an interesting one.
We've had such a roster turnover in the last few years. This year we've added a top goalie, 3 top 9 forwards, plus Olesz, and probably will start a kid on D and a kid on offense. He's brought back what will soon be all of our key RfAs. Gotta give Lou credit. The man is doing his beat to ice a competitive team.
Not getting Brunner won't kill us, but it would be nice to have a fairly smart and speedy 27 year old that can put the puck in the net, and has upside. He'll be good to still have around next year when Jagr leaves and we have another wing spot available.

ek said we are in on him

found this interesting from lou

At the same time, though, Lamoriello repeated he is not yet done molding the 2013-14 Devils via both “additions and deletions.” - See more at: http://blogs.northjersey....eice#sthash.XQ5ALX1K.dpuf

I think I'd rather have Brunner. I just have a feeling he would fit in well.

Yea, I don't have a problem with him. Grabo is established and has some star power but that's not to say Brunner's career couldn't take off here. He'd also be cheaper and younger than Grabo. Either one would suit me. Most likely we'll get neither.

Would he be any cheaper ? I kind of think that is why he hasn't been signed yet. He is likely asking for Grabovski money after one alright season or else I would have to think a team would of taken a gamble on him by now there is no way that 29 teams think he doesn't improve their roster in anyway so he must be asking for a lot and when I say a lot I mean 4.5-5 because I could easily see a team take a gamble on him for 3.5 especially a teams like Florida/Dallas/NYI/NJ/Carolina

The rumor out of Detroit before free agency commenced was that Detroit was offering Brunner $2.5 million a year, and he wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of $3.5 million a year. I do think that, this year, with the cap going down, even $3.5 million is a tad excessive for Brunner, perhaps because I was really not all that impressed with him on the Wings. He does have some offensive punch, but he also played with some really good players as well.

I really don't think many teams are looking to add players right now. Basically no one has been signed since July 6th, so my guess is a lot of these players are only getting below market offers and are trying to wait out for a decent offer.

The Devils are so bad at business... They could be selling jerseys right now, but they have to wait til the night before opening night to announce what numbers any new players will wear.

Maybe they're waiting until all the players are signed to announce them all in a press conference? I doubt it though, they'll probably just tell them to show up at the arena in October and send them a fruit basket as a welcome to NJ present.
