What do you think he would cost then? - Marshalle

We got Nilsson, Omarra, and a 1st for Smytty not 2- 1sts - Ihatebrianburke
Oops! Forgot about O'Marra!
I forgot that we got the pick for Nash from Phoenix/Dallas..
Still pretty Crappy that not one of those players panned out.
But what do you expect from Kevin Pendergast?

Gagner will get $4.75 at arbitration, and he'll get a two year deal so the arbitrator doesn't have to see him next year. He'll be an overpaid plug for both seasons and the Oilers will try to deal him twice a day for two years and then go through this again. Wash, rinse, repeat. - trolleytracks
outscored the entire OTT roster, no? by 9P?
4.75 is more than fair. If gags is a plug, I'd love to hear your thoughts on turris. |

Does anyone remember what the issue was when Smyth got traded back to Edmonton? I think I remember that it wasnt suppose to be Fraser and a 7th it was suppose to be someone else but I completely forgot - OilerFanFromBC

he outscored an injured nuge last year. but not for 2 years ..
nuge outscored gags as an 18 year old rookie in 15 less games played.
some of the things uve said are true, and Sammy brings a sh1tload of character, heart and effort level every night.
but nuge is another class.
if nuge's injury turns out ok and he puts on some meat, I don't think there's much doubt he's in another class from Sammy.
Sammy might very well walk if he ends up with another year contract, but at th end of the day, he aint worth 5+ and management has to do what's best for the franchise. we have 3 maybe 4 guys to resign next year. - hugefemale dog77
yeah, was Gagner given the opportunity, he wasnt playing with the best players in the best situations, when he did, he scored 8 points in 1 game, a record held be Gretzky. I think Gagner has developed, he was rushed, and now is legit. Nug has yet to establish himself, im sure he will be a great player, but i think Gagner is better now. If Gagner is given the opportunity with Hall for a full season will be a PPG player or close to I beleive, the days of 45 points are over unless he gets put in situations to not succeed again. |

True but there are still very very attractive pieces not mentioned there. Not that they are going to trade him or anything but I think he is exactly the kind of player you need in the top 6. - Marshalle
agreed.
he'd be wonderful alongside the nuge and ebs.

Does anyone remember what the issue was when Smyth got traded back to Edmonton? I think I remember that it wasnt suppose to be Fraser and a 7th it was suppose to be someone else but I completely forgot - OilerFanFromBC
On June 24, 2011, the day of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, it was reported that the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings had come to an agreement that Smyth would go to Edmonton in return for Gilbert Brulé and a 4th round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Upon salary cap and injury concerns, the trade never went through, due to the Kings planning to buy out Brulé's contract, however, the NHL prohibits team from buying out injured players. Smyth wanted to leave the Los Angeles Kings and return to the Oilers, because he wanted to end his career where he started it.[31][32] On June 26, 2011, the Kings officially traded Smyth back to Edmonton for Colin Fraser and a 7th round draft pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.[33] In his first season back with the Oilers, Smyth was the only Oiler to play all 82 games, and was fifth in scoring with 46 points. |

I don't think that would cut the mustard. Probably Gags, 1st, Klefbom/Nurse |

I like Sammy and id like to see him get resigned. but at a reasonable rate.
4.5 for 4 years id do.
and maybe he hasn't gotten the respect he deserves.
but he's in a tough situation.
forgetting the newly acquired perron;
Sammy is probably the 5th most talented player out of 5. on an already smallish top 6.
and never busted 50 points.
had a great season last year and has so many intangibles. but he needs to give the oilers some value I think for us to resign long term.
otherwise I suppose theyre forced to risk him walking next year |

Edmonton doesn't have the assets to trade for Backes or Berglund. Sure, they have more valuable players, but they can't fill the holes they would be creating in our roster for a similar salary/cap hit. And we don't have any already present major holes they could fill to make it worth creating one elsewhere, or the flexibility to take on more cap. |

it was just fantasy.
but either way, I just read an article with both doug Armstrong and ken Hitchcock suggesting backes to the wing full time is a real possibility. and that he's strong off the left side, been there before and probably more suited to that role....lol |

^this.
However, the writing is on the wall... if they go through the arbitration process, Sammy will be gone before the 2014-15 season starts.
Oilers mismanaging their players again
