i've told this before i'm sure but since the stories are still going i'll add mine

i hated sports and surprised myself by marrying a guy who liked one sport: hockey

i quickly realized it was definitely the coolest sport so i didn't give him a hard time about it, in fact we went to the hockey hall of fame on our honeymoon

i sat down in the movie room there just to take a load off while he perused the hall, and they were showing the flyers vs red army game. i left there pretty impressed.

started actually watching with him during the 2004 playoffs. i was shocked and disappointed about the lockout the next year. zus and kappy were my first two favorites.

in my short time as a fan i've been through TWO lockouts

Jagr was held goal less in 22 playoff games last year. And that's coming of a shortened 48 game schedule. Not sure how much gas is left in the tank.
- PLindbergh31

He's a puck possession machine, though. Boston didn't lose because Jagr didn't score. At the right price I'd have loved to see him back in Philly.

Primeau was unreal for playoffs in 04. Hated giving up #17 for him, but in the playoffs for that run, he was magic. Have a game puck from Game 6 vs. TB. Amazing game!

2004 bothers me almost as much as 2000 does. The Lindros injury in game 7 of the 2000 ECF totally took the air, and life out of the building. Once that hit happened I knew that game was over. Even had the Flyers advanced they would have had to win without Lindros.

The series with TB the Flyers d-core was pretty much a group of journeyman.

If you look at the 6 teams the Flyers have lost to since the 1976 SCF, 5 of them are Dynasties, and the Blackhawks with another Cup will become one.

The 2 times the Flyers lost a game 7 of the ECF, the Stars, and Flames were waiting. Very beatable teams. The Hockey Gods are cruel.

my story is that I never really liked hockey growing up in Connecticut and didnt know much about it. When I was moving to Phila in 1992 (for law school), someone that I knew who worked at Topps gave me a Lindros rookie card and I thought, I should watch hockey and check it out. I was hooked on day one. The rest is history. . .

My Dad had gotten the 14 game ticket plan during the 71-72 season. I got to go to about 4 or 5 of them, including when the Blues went into the stands because someone dumped beer on Al Arbour. The next season the Flyers were going to go to just individual tickets or full season plans. My Dad decided to base his decision on whether the Flyers made the play-offs. With FOUR SECONDS left in the entire season, Gerry Meehan scored for Buffalo, the Flyers lost and Pittsburgh won the tie-breaker to get into the playoffs. My Dad has kicked himself ever since.

Although we moved to Houston in 78, I got to watch the first game of the 80 finals (which was OT PP gift from the referees) when we were picking up one of my brothers from college but missed game 6 at home because the Houston CBS affiliate did not show the game. Just as well.

Came back to Philly in 82-83 for college. Got to watch a lot of practices at Class of 23 rink freshman year. Lots of autos, a Lindbergh 1st half home jersey and Gretzky autos (the Western teams usually came in a day before and practiced there also).

Was at the Flyers/Caps game previously mentioned and Hexy's goal against Boston.

I guess I like the 80's team the best and for the players: Parent, Lindbergh and Howe.

Also, with regard to Braydon Schenn and his cap hit, would this count?

I was just going to mention that tragic game against the Devils. When Scott Stevens did that, it was like a funeral in the building. most horrible sinking feeling. still remember it vividly.

I think it's the second worst moment in Flyers history. Obviously the death of Pelle Lindbergh being first.

No way of knowing this, but had that play not happened I think the Flyers hoist the Cup in 2000.

In some sick way, being at that game, and living through that experience forever made me a die hard fan, holding the Flyers up as my true and almost exclusive deep sports passion. No team, no sports even comes remotely close for me and I think the roots of it was really at that ECF Game 7 in 2000.

For Flyers fans say 45 years of age and younger it's been a tortured existence. Granted the Flyers are a successful franchise and majority of the time put a very competitive product on the ice. Being so close to winning so many times and falling short really is tough. But I believe when they do finally break through and capture the elusive Cup it will be that much sweeter for all the fans that haven't experienced that thrill.

Lindros hadn't played for a while. They went 1-3 in the games he played in the playoffs. There were a lot of fans and team mates if IIRC who thought his return threw off the teams chemistry but how do you keep him out?

That Cup was all but ours. Dallas wasn't ready for a finals match up.

I agree. I have zero interest in bringing back Jagr.

I'm not even sure the Flyers need to burn 2M or more on Gagne.

And they also lost a cup to an offsides goal.

You can't keep him out. If he's ready to play he has to be in the lineup regardless of circumstances. He wasn't the Lindros of years before, but he still put up 59 points in 55 games that year which is pretty damn good.

Glad that isn't my bucket list. I had accomplished 3 things on this list, but # 3, has currently put a wrench in # 1, & # 2.
