Did he get his ass kicked other than when MacTavish jumped him, which made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, by the way....

Also, trickling? That wasn't a trickle

- Giroux_Is_God

Yes, one a team with the Dan line and a slew of other big guys, it was old man MacTavish who was THE ONLY ONE who went after him. If that had happened in the 70s, he would have gotten beaten up by 5 guys, all at once.

Also, it was blood flowing out of his mouth, because he bit his tongue. My dad and I honestly thought he was dead. The only scarier hit I've ever seen was Richards on Booth, with the was Booth's unconscious body just spiraled on the ice.

Possibly because they need some kind of drawing card for the fans. Kovalchuk is gone. They have a hard enough time drawing fans. I hope they sign him. I don't want the Flyers to sign him.
- MJL

That is a fair point, but as you pointed out with your support of them signing him to help the Flyers. GMs shouldn't care about a name to excite the fans (even though they are searching for a spark on a team that lost Parise and Kovalchuk in back to back seasons) For the future of the team Brunner or someone of his ilk would probably be a better fit than Jagr.

The situation around Jaromir Jagr has stabilized. He should sign the contract with New Jersey Devils today... Finally... #jagr

Looking like the Flyers either bowed out or Jagr is deciding not to wait any longer

In most cases a GM shouldn't worry about getting a name to excite fans, but in the Devils case, there's already serious money issues and they will need to get asses in seats any way they can.

In that case, Florida (cue the "old man" jokes) and Phoenix should have been offering big $$.

Definitely a big issue in Newark. But it just seems so weird if that story was true. I know if I was a Devils fan this would make me even less excited to see him suit up in a Devils jersey.

They'd have to trade one of their defensemen, the demote Laughton/Schenn/Couturier on opening day, LTIR Pronger, then call all 3 back up.

I would love to have Jagr back as a fan, but I don't see how we can fit him in.

I wonder what is going to happen with Gagne. Are we going to wait until Pronger is LTIRed and then sign him after inviting him to training camp without a contract?

Jagr has played for a majority of teams in the NHL at this point?
Does he hold the record??

Really not as many as you might think. Before playing for the Flyers he had only previously played for 3 teams. (Pens, Rangers, Capitals) Now that list includes the Flyers, Stars and Bruins.

This would have to be done at the end of training camp. That is the deadline for being cap compliant. And Laughton can't be sent to the AHL. And once sent back to Juniors. He can only be recalled on a emrgency basis.

My favorite was when Marc Bureau knocked Petr Sobvoda (frank)ing out. Both Dorny and JJ were absolutely livid.
- KGBflyers10

I was so sure he was dead. When Rod came over and touched his skate I remembered Paul Wylie saying he'd gone to touch Grinkov's skate when he collapsed and realized he was dead. So seeing Rod touch Petr's skate I just lost it. The place was completely silent. It was hard to accept Bureau as a Flyer later.

First, not true. Second, not close.

First, Pens, Caps, Rangers, Flyers, Stars, Bruins. 20%

Second, Sillinger, another former Flyer, played for 12. Dozens have played for 8 or more, a number of them former Flyers.

My bad, not Laughton. There was someone else I was thinking of. Oh, it was to place Hall of waivers.

From that list, at least 7 players who played for 9+ teams were Flyers. There may be more, but I'd have to look at the of some, as I don't recognize some of the names.

God, Michel Petit sucked.

Edit: Make it 8. Reid Simpsons played 1 game for the Flyers. My only Flyer memory of him was Sandy McCarthy pounding the crap out of him after a hit on (I think) Renberg.

I love Jagr, but I just didn't see the fit here. I get why some want him back over Gagne, but I think there's no question as to which fits better if you were to sign them and that's Gagne. Jagr would want to be on Claude's wing and the only current opening I see us having is a 3rd line winger which usually goes to a solid 2 way guy, like Gagne. Now I'm not advocating signing Gagne because of contract slots and salary cap, but given Jagr or Gagne to fit on this current squad, I would go Gagne.

Jagr was held goal less in 22 playoff games last year. And that's coming of a shortened 48 game schedule. Not sure how much gas is left in the tank.

I think the Flyers are wise to stay away from him.

I believe the Flyers have a gentleman's agreement with Gagne. The fact there haven't been any rumors linking him to other teams is a good sign. I think as soon as the Flyers create some cap space, Gagne will be added.

Theoretically we could get both. They both really want to come back, so if they both showed the patience we could dump Mez, wait for day 1 of the season, LTIR Pronger, and sign both of them to short deals, granted they'd probably both have to take a small pay cut. Waiting and taking pay cuts are 2 very uncharacteristic things for Jagr the businessman.

Hartnell - Giroux - Jagr
Schenn - Lecavalier - Voracek
Read - Couturier - Simmonds
Gagne- Talbot - Rinaldo

late to this party, but anyway...

1st gm I saw was 1970 ('69-70 season) a 2-2 tie @ the MTL forum. I believe stu Nahan was p-b-p man and gene did color. bill lesuk tied the gm in the 3rd and Bernie was in goal...I think. I know rogue vachon was in net for MTL.

The 80s teams were my fave. loved Tim Kerr and I think he'd be considered the best flyer ever if it weren't for the injuries....although you could say the same thing about E, of course.

The Flyers are currently 2.5M over the Upper Limit. Placing Pronger on LTIR on day 1, would give the Flyers 4.921M of LTIR Cap space. Trading Meszaros would add another 4. So Jagr and Gagne would have to come cheap. About 3M for each.
