i volunteer at an elementary school, coached their ice hockey team. the goalie plays for the mississauga terriers but most likely will be playing AAA next year. was talking with the kid, he said, if he ever makes the NHL he would play for 2 mil a season regardless of if he's the best goalie in the NHL. will be interesting to see what happens with him. still he is OHL draft eligible and he was pretty solid. his improvement from last year to this year was crazy.

Love the idea! Tell him he should still take the big contract, keep 2 for himself and give the rest to charities. This way the greedy owners don't profit from it.
Just as a side note: leafs won't make the playoffs this year.

At $7 mil, let Phaneuf go. You will regret that contract.

Why do people think that a guy that is 25 years old is going to accept a 5 year deal that drops to 5mil when he's 30?? Does tha make sense to anyone??

It'll take more than 6mil avg to get it done.... and more than a 5mil salary @ 30 years old.

It's you that looks like a fool, burn. They were talking about Phaneuf, not Kessel.

I hope he's the best goalie in the NHL and plays for the Leafs for two mil a year, that would be okay with me.

I often wondered if a player said I don't care about leaving money on the table, I want to take a big discount to win a Cup with a team if the PA would say no, we all have to work together to keep salaries pushing upwards

- Zezel

yea i dont think the PA would allow it to be honest. why do you think guys like elias and alfie had to take bigger salaries? guys near the end of their careers and they are getting paid 5 mil? not to mention elias has been in NJ his whole career you figure they could have signed him for like 3-4

it will be my goal as a teacher to inspire kids to just play for the leafs haha i basically have like 10 years to nail it into their brains

edit: i'll put bonus questions on tests asking what the score in the game was, or who the leading scorer on the team is. something about the current leafs team which will force them to have to pay attention to them if they want extra marks lol

What I don't understand is all why are these proposals front-loaded.
All that does is help teams with money issues.

Leafs don't have that problem. Cap hit is all that matters.

Kessel @ 8 million for 8 yrs is just plain crazy!!!
- jimmc7722

We can't afford to not give Kessel what he wants. Kessel has scored at a 36 goal pace for the past 5 seasons..i mean he has 6 less goals in 14 less games compared to Corey Perry in that same time frame, and Perry just got 8.625 /8 years.

Kessel has been outscored by just Malkin, Giroux and Stamkos over the past 2 seasons..Parise is a comparable at 7.5 million, and he has 27 points less than phil in the same amount of games the past 2 years

I just think they played over their heads last year. In a full season neither Habs or leafs are looking that great by the end. Bolland or Briere are not the difference makers. Also, I was just in Nola and had voodoo dolls of the entire leafs team made.
I've been playing with phanuef doll for days, he'll never take a dump or walk the same way ever again let alone skate.

Michael Jordan was never the highest paid, his choice. He always look far less so they could improve the team around him. There is no way Chicago builds that kind of dream team for so many years if AJ takes his fair share. That bulls team is probably the last dynasty we will ever see, in all sports.

So a young team that took a huge leap forward is gonna take a big step back?
In: Clarkson, Bolland, Bernier
Out: MacArthur, Grabovski, Scrivens

Our 3rd line looks a hellava lot better this year, and we actually have a backup goalie that could end up stealing the starters role.

what have the teams that missed the playoffs done that would justify the leafs dropping (NJ, Phi, Buf, Wpg etc?) Answer - not enough.

on a side note maybe you should worry about your own roster ..habs have done very little to a team that got exposed late in the season and in the playoffs by the mighty sens and their 27th ranked offense!
