But to say he's anywhere near Weber, I mean guys thats insane. If so why did Calgary trade him, and traded him so swiftly that other GMs said they had no idea he was even on the block? If he's that good, they keep him, they moved him because they realized his price tag wasn't living up to his game, and in a cap world that won't work. Obviously Calgary went out and wasted money anyway, but to put him anywhere in the league of the Webers and Charas of the world is seeing blue i'de say. - aminnes
Weber being a year older got/is getting 14, 14, 14, 14, 12, 12, 6, 6 = 92
Suggested price for Dion was 7.5,7.5,7.5,7.5, 5,5,4,4= 48
I do not think we are comparing to Weber, looking at Weber's contract Dion is worth 8 million a year (not that I think that.....

There isn't really a way to prove I think on either side. Some guys see him a certain way and some don't, thats it. Hockey is partly stats, and i use them too but when push comes to shove guys view things in different ways. It's like the Bernier thing, Nonis and or Leweike must like him, I for one saw it as pointless, all we can do is wait and see. Time will tell with Phaneuf either way. - aminnes
True that he's your best dman, hard to replace, like some said.
But also true that for that type of money, you expect more from a #1 dman.
One thing is sure, you either sign him or trade him.
And congrats to Froome for a job well done! |

8th best by a series of subjective votes. Your opinion is just as valid as mine or some guy who writes columns. Proof is in the pudding. Weber I would say shows how much better he is on the ice all the time. As buddy said, Webers team was second last in goals for, put them say 15th, he's probly a plus 15 at least. I cant even believe we're talking Weber Dion in the same sentence, I'm just shocked right now. - aminnes
So, you won't accept objective statistics because they don't tell the whole story and you won't accept the consensus of Norris voters because they're too subjective...
I guess somebody should tell P.K. that his Norris Trophy is illegitimate. Maybe we should just scrap awards altogether. |

Not to mention Dion's Actual Salary this year is 5.5 million. 20th in the league amongst defenseman...so I do not think he will be an overpaid defenseman this year....
And he may very well sign for an average of 6 million over a long term deal carrying him to 36 |

Keith also plays with one of the best #2 defensemen in the game (a #1 in his own right).
Last year, people would have laughed at the idea that Phaneuf and Weber were similarly talented. But when you subtract Suter, suddenly the gap closes, doesn't it?
Put Suter or Seabrook in a Leafs uniform and there'd be no doubt that Dion is worth 7 mil. - Leeman4Gilmour

No problem with Dion at 6M. I have one at 7+ though.
Just like Kessel finally. |

To me, to make that kind of money, you have to bring more than just points.
Bring good defence, leadership on the road, some size and/or grit.
But that's just me, I know he'll get it. |
