This is just a patch. He'll put in some time this year while guys like Boucher develop and then Jags will walk off into the sunset.

The devils wont be as bad as people think. Brodeur missed a month last year.

Even if the devils had their draft pick, it wont be lower than the sabres.

Funny, the devils are not that bad if they keep adding NHL players to roster.
Now u have 2 good goalies, but not be a fast team, but still good enough to make playoffs....

Todays game relies on 2 solid lines, and 2 other lines to eat enough mins and produce.
With Zajac & Henrique as your 2C that's good enough, if they stay healthy....
I might be in the minority, but I think Devils will make playoffs bc of you're improved G situation, and added enough W for the lost of Kovy & Clarkson

Ryder will put in 25-30g
Clowe - 10-15g or more
Kovy was your biggest loss, but also can be your best benefit....

Unrelated: What the hell is going on with Grabovski? Seems oddly quiet for a player in his prime coming off a $5.5 mil deal. I thought someone like Washington would be chomping at the bit for him.

I think Lou might be put off by some of his antics, but he's a really exciting player. He might not be willing to switch to wing too, which would kinda be a deal-breaker here for the price he could command.

I'm not confident in the least bit but as you said, I wouldn't be surprised. The devils have made the playoffs with Mattau-White being our shutdown pairing and our highest scorer had 60 points. The only thing that is different is that our division will be a pain in the ass this year. A key injury could cause any team in the "Cosmopolitan" division to miss.

Yes, if we get Jagr and Brunner (I still think he signs in NJ) that's 4 full lines of players not including Teds, JJ, and Olesz. I guess "depth" is never a bad thing, I guess there may be a lot of switching in an out. We do have a lot of back to backs.

Thing I like about signing Jagr is that it is a 1 year deal most likely. Tho he is slow and a liability defensively he adds some scoring and helps the PP. Not sure we need to add Brunner. Would probably be better to make a bigger splash through a trade for a high end talent if Lou still wants to make a run (he does). If we can add Vanek by giving up Teddy and/or Josefson plus whatever else our lineup could be good enough to compete with anyone our there.

We have more youth and untapped potential then we know what to do with... we will suck for a year or two... but we are starting our rebuild... devils have one of the 5 worst farm systems in hockey and are holding on to old guys past their primes hoping to squeeze out another playoff appearance or two..

it's a good looking line-up with him in it. pucks in the net.

and if he walks, he walks. any player could walk when he's a ufa. or retire whenever the feel like it. no reason never to get them.

Yea I agree. The only situation I'd be in favor of going for Vanek is if he hits free agency next year. Too expensive and might not resign if we trade for him. I still like the idea of Grabovski because of his speed and offense

No not with the kings ransom that darcy wants... look at what we got for pommer.. vanek if not dealt now will get the best return in the nhl at the deadline... an nhl playing winger... high winger prospect and a 1st if vanek resigns or a 2nd if not would be my guess

You guys say you have 8-10 nhl dmen but hard to believe when the sabres were one of the worst defensive teams last year

have fun in hockey heaven maybe one year that title could be earned
