He probably improves their Power Play, but not their cap situation.
- eburgio

Plus whose spot does he take? I sort of like the chemistry these 6 have. But, I guess we would then trade ODuya somewhere? That would free up a lot of space for him.

The teams in the KHL log some miles, that's for sure.

Indeed. The two teams in the far east of Russia log a ton of miles.

Brad Winchester signed with the Hawks on the 24th?

Maybe size DOES matter in an 82 game regular season.

I saw that it is on CSNChicago, although that might not help you. Maybe the hawks website will have it?

Telecast has started, press conference is late, Kaplan is scrambling.

Why can't they start these things on time?

Really like the way Q handles himself - you can tell he feels legitimately fortunate to be in this place, but also knows he adds a lot to the mix. Loved the appreciation he showed to the players in the room, and very classy for the players to be there for him.

i have never spent one minute fishing but I do know there are no walleye in Canada. Only pickerel! They turn into walleye when they swim across the border.
- RickJ

Ha, generally true. Pike are also known in the far north as "jacks"

The 42 pound Ontario record pike was caught in 1946. There were bigger fish back then. From over harvesting of big fish through the 1960/70s, trophies became smaller. With catch and release and slot limits, trophies are getting larger again these days.

And on the pickerel vs walleye debate, I noticed that Ontario does have a province record walleye, but no listing for a pickerel.

I fished arguably one of the best pike lakes in the world—Lac la Martre in the NWT— in 2003, 2004, 2008. In addition to seeing many 30+ pounders pulled out of there, I myself caught three over 20 pounds there. All gorgeous, fat fish. But maybe the coolest thing was seeing a few "silver" pike caught, Which is a rare genetic anomaly in pike, and one that went about 25 pounds, sitting on the bottom of a shallow bay. Also once had one reeled up to the boat that went about 14-15 pounds (would have been a serious trophy) but my ne'erdowell nephew lost him while trying to get him in the net. Pretty cool.

Also caught numerous lakers over 20 pounds in that lake, including a 26 and a 30 pounder.

As fans I think we are pretty lucky to be a part of this team. Dynasty or not it's clear that this team is something special. I know this team isn't perfect but when you look at their accomplishments over the past few years in addition to the possibilities that lay ahead it's pretty damn exciting.

For so many years we suffered through some painfully bad Blackhawks teams waiting and hoping for better days. That patience has paid off big time. In 15 years we'll look back on this group as one of the best in team history.

From the management, to the coach, to the players this organization has given their fans some great memories.

Well said, DK.
In addition, I enjoy the feeling that the individuals involved - players, coaches and much of the FO (perhaps not McD) - are good people that make it easy for me to root for (this is also true about the league in general when compared to other sports). There seems to be a lot of class among the team. That is an important thing to me, although I know it isn't as important as being great at hockey.

Plus they play a VERY entertaining style of play, too. Could they be a little more physical? sure. And over the next few years those type of players will be here playing a huge role in the bottom 6. But like Kaner said, "this is hockey, baby." I really can see a few more Cups over the next 5 or 6 years.

There is a rumour the Leafs have Cody Franson on the market. He is very good on the powerplay both moving the puck and getting shots through traffic on the net. He skates pretty well, is solid defensively, passes the puck well and is huge. The down side is he isn't very physical which some fans can't deal with when the player is so big. He'd improve the hawks powerplay.
- paulr

I've been a Franson fan for a while. Like somebody else pointed out the only way to fit him on the roster would be to trade away Oduya. I heard he wants $4 million per season and I don't know if he's worth that yet.

Franson was on the ice for 2 of those 4 goals they gave up to Boston in Game 7. In fact, his giveaway was brushed right into the stride of Bergeron who potted the game winner.

While I like Franson I'm not advocating trading for him. I like our defense now with a top 4 of 2, 7, 4 and 27 with 8 replacing 27 in the not to distant future.

I said that we'd have to trade Oduya to make room for Franson but to be honest I don't want to trade Oduya. His cap hit is pretty good and he played damn good in the playoffs.
