I would agree unless they play poorly to start the season.

Crawford has a decent shot if he plays well.

- Al

By the looks of it, Toews, Keith, Crawford make it. Sharp and Seabs don't.

Toews probably on the third line with Bergeron and Nash.

Looking at Capgeek for the Hawks.... they list 21 contracts with $2M in cap space. Hayes is listed on that roster, but Smith is not. If you switch them, the Hawks have $2.3M with one or two spots left (perhaps a touch more if Brookbank is traded and Stanton is 7D). If the Rockford guys bounce up and down as the 23rd guy, the FO might be able to make a move for a $2M signing if they like what they see later in the summer.

Raanta has been invited to Finland's camp while Kruger, Hjlmarsson and Oduya have been invited to Sweden's.

Sweden has a lot of talent but I could see Kruger making the team.

I don't recall hearing anything about why Waite left - do you know anything?
- mohel

He had a great run with the Hawks, and there may be more to it, but I think it's as simple as Waite deciding to go home to Quebec.

Well, if he's able to make that team - given that there are least 75 great goalies in Finnland - we might have something goin' on....

I would think Raanta is a long shot with Rinne, Rask and Niemi invited as well.

Introduction if they didn't know each other: Pekka, this is Tuuka, Tuuka, this is Antti, Antti, this is Antti. Then they joke about how silly American names are like Bob and Bill.

I can see that, but I think if Crawford accepts the $4M I bet he'd rather do two years (which is three seasons more because he has one year more on his deal) so he has time for a longer contract after that. $4.5 for Hammer would be a bit of a discount and he went the offer sheet road last time, so he might need a little more to sign.
- mohel

I would be floored if the Hawks got Hammer at $4.5 mil. IMO he jets next offseason for top d-man money. When you factor in his age, he's probably the #1 UFA d-man in next Summer's free agency. Even if the Hawks keep him at a discount, look at Seabs contract and that's the comparable.

Sharp is versatile....can play all 3 forward positions.
- ArlingtonRob

Are you sure he can play C, I thought that was just a rumor

John,

They jumped in becuase the risk/reward was very favorable.

Raanta and his crew bought into the plan about gong to school in Rockford and that doesn't cost the Hawks much at all.

Plus there was a big hole here at that position.

Lastly if Raanta is the goods then $1.4 mill is a very affrdable contract.

- Al

Real question is how did Raanta play against TT?

Saad and Leddy got invites to Team USA camp. Pretty unsurprising that USA Hockey realized having Pittsburgh Jesus on your team guarantees championships

I'm sure it's just for the experience. I doubt either makes the team this Olympics but next time around they could be prime candidates.

Every time Sharp plays center he gets the job done and wins 58% of his draws. I'll never understand why he's not at the dot all the time.

I wonder if Luongo won't be too much of a distraction. He comes with so much baggage. I don't think it's past Canada to want to start Fresh. Carey Price #1 Crawford #2 with Holtby or Smith getting the third. spot.

Seabs was barely playing toward the end of the '10 games. Wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't make it. Not saying he shouldn't, just saying it wouldn't surprise me.

- yahoodi

Maybe although Luongo would have to be awful to not make the team....starting is a different story.

Holtby doesn't have a long resume....even compared to Crawford.

Al...I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of Hockeybuzz commenters consider Holtby superior to Crawford.
