Who says they would have taken Carlson?
- PhillySportsGuy

Okay, Jacob Markstrom.

Edit: Or, if you want to, trade the first-round pick and a player with less value that Downie, for Carle. If anything, that trade weakened their trading power, as Eminger was pretty bad here.

I can pretty much say with certainty they would not have taken a goalie

I have a feeling they would have taken McCollum or Phil McRae...

I'd prefer Downie and John Calrson over Matt Carle.

Donwie was one of those players that needed a change of scenery to excel, plus you have no idea who the flyers would have drafted..

I edited it. If you want, trade the first rounder and another player for Carle. The 1st rounder had more value than Eminger at that point.

The whole scenario culminates with Matt Carle, which means it was all his fault.

That is absolutely true. I blame the entire 2008 NHL draft on Carle. And I blame the 2005 draft on Carter. And Bryz, somehow.

I think it would be odd for a Western Pennsylvania kid like Umberger to have a Flyers tattoo.

The funny thing about Carle and Leino is that teams actually outbid the Flyers. I think as an organizational rule, teams should recognize that if you outbid the Flyers, you're probably paying way too much.

Fair enough, but most people I know that grew up where RJ grew up are not only Pens fans and Pittsburgh fans, but they strongly dislike Philadelphia and Philadelphia sports teams.

If Laughton isn't a "skill guy", then what's the rush?
- bradleyc4

I don't see what being a "skill guy" has to do with it.

Well, the issue is that tons of 19-year-olds from the CHL would be flocking to the AHL, taking away the best CHL kids from their teams in their best years. But there should be an exemption, where each AHL team can have 1 underage CHL player.
- jmatchett383

In my opinion, the rule should simply be 3 Junior Seasons. That's fair. The CHL has had the player for 3 years. Now it's time to do what's best for the player.

Kinda hard to score 7 goals and 13 points in just 7 playoff games w/ no skill...

I think we all know that while maybe another year in junior might not be the worst idea, the Flyers are going to basically hand him a roster spot on a silver platter by virtue of him being a 1st-round pick... he'd really have to crap the bed or get hurt to miss his shot this year.

They should lower the age restriction by 1 year. its pointless to send laughton to the ohl to beat up on younger kids.
- PhillaBully

I've read this alot here, with respect to Laughton.

There is a lot that Laughton can still do at the junior hockey level. He can be given a bigger role and get more of a bite offensively. He can actually make the Canadian National team this year and play internationally in World Juniors (he didn't last year). He can go back and try to win a Memorial Cup, etc.

It's not like the kid achieved everything there is to achieve at the junior hockey level and needs a new challenge.

I'm fine with it if he can help the Flyers now and make the team, but don't really understand the rush at all.
