it's definitely closely related to the role you play. that much is certain - FlyerMike18
Generally, players batting in the 3,4,5 spots tend to have more players in scoring position to knock in.

It's not cherry picking. It's a clear example of how it is a team. The examples are simply to illustrate a point. Guys need to get on base. Guys need to knock runners in. Feel free to dispute anything I post. And I'll be glad to discuss it with you. But frankly, this is the type of response that indicates that you really can't. - MJL

Go it's the lockout all over again!....
And I am sure that I could with proper knowledge but I'd be talking out of my ass (which is obvious you are doing with "I saw a Phillies game or two" argument). But I am not a baseball guy at all. I know the game but never watch it. So I am not going to talk out of my ass like you love to do. |

There is no need to say RBIs; the 's' is included in the 'R'.
Carry on.

About what exactly? I was calling you out for cherry-picking examples to prove a point. Did you not cherry-pick an example from "A Phillies game I happen to catch recently". Honestly that's all I called you out on. I didn't even read the baseball comments to try and see what point you were trying to make. Only calling out the way you like to make a point. |

So you don't think getting a hit when runners are on base, is being clutch? Having a higher batting average with RISP isn't being clutch? - MJL
im leaving work so this will be my last post
I think hits, slugging, power (all of which lead to a player being put in the middle of the order and therefore leading to good RBI numbers) are all a better indicator of a player's value than something like "being clutch"
if those stats are lacking - regardless of whether there are RISP or not - you wont be batting 4th.. and you wont have good RBI numbers
ok bye |

and he is not producing or driving in runs because his hits, slugging and power numbers are all down
not because he isnt being "clutch" - Crimsoninja
hmm i think this is largely a semantics issue, because to me, if you are clutch you do the things you listed above, especially with men on base. at one point howard had that. now, hes as fragile and (frank)ed up as fleury.
its kind of a stretch example, but i feel like i guess you can be all of those things, with power numbers and driving in runs and not be clutch. loved the guy, but burrell did it for years. Hey you guys are down 8 2, heres a solo shot. or youre up 7 to 1, bam bases clearing double. tie game, 2 on 2 out. curveball and subsequent whiff. |

I don't disagree with that. I think it's semantics. But I think it depends on when you do it also. Guys who are considered clutch come through in key situations in games.

Who would have more RBI in an MLB season: Timonen, Coburn, Schenn, Gusty, Streit, Mesz, or Hot Mess [Gervais]? |

Did you not read what I wrote? I am not you. I am not going to talk out of my ass about baseball just because I know the rules/game and listen to ESPN radio.
EDIT: Maybe I am more angry and aggressive in general because I have in my mind that MJL is Donald Fehr sitting at a laptop somewhere just (frank)ing with us. MJL = Lockout to me just as much as Bettman or Fehr does |
