I think hes one year away. - PhillaBully
I think he was asking about one more in the OHL, then a year in the AHL next year. |

I thought he played a few games after the OHL season ended? Or is that some special rule? I have a six month old so excuse me of not knowing all hte hockey rules inside and out - PhillaBully
A CHL player is allowed to join an AHL (or NHL, I think) team once his CHL season has ended. |

Do you think the Oilers bringing up Sam Gagner as an 18-year-old was a good idea? - bradleyc4
I don't know, I didn't follow the Oilers 07/08 season. I don't know where he was placed and what his role was. |

Apples to oranges. Laughton isn't a skill guy and he's 19. Gagne had to step in and play an offensive role right away. Laughton won't have even close to the responsibilities that Gagne had early on. |

some combination of:
hartnell-giroux-voracek
schenn-lecavalier-simmonds
laughton-couturier-read
he'd be bumping Talbot to the 4th line. - bradleyc4
This is eventually going to happen though, if not this season then next season. |

Sorry, didn't mean to come off as a (huge) jerk. But that's the issue. Guys like Laughton (and Couturier his rookie year) should be allowed to play in the AHL. They're too good for juniors, but not necessarily full-time NHL players (Couturier worked out). |

That's true. But I'd rather Laughton have a full NHL season under his belt learning both sides of the puck at NHL speed before it happens. |

NHL exposure. Give him more than 8 games as a fill-in center before giving him a 3rd line role. |

There's no rush. I just believe he's ready for the NHL. Playing him another year in Juniors won't help his development. Did playing Schenn and Couturier in Adirondack help their development this past season? No. In fact, they developed bad habits that carried over to the NHL |

the Flyers will make a big splash at the draft next year and a big trade to excite the crowd at the former FU center |

They should lower the age restriction by 1 year. its pointless to send laughton to the ohl to beat up on younger kids. |

Well, the issue is that tons of 19-year-olds from the CHL would be flocking to the AHL, taking away the best CHL kids from their teams in their best years. But there should be an exemption, where each AHL team can have 1 underage CHL player. |

Yeah. It would be nice to see how these guys do against grown men before having them play in the NHL. |

Yeah, after their season, they are able to sign a professional try out.
Outside of that, Canadian CHL'ers must be sent back to the CHL for their 18-year-old and 19-year-old seasons if they don't make an NHL club. The only exceptions are for non-Canadians who were drafted before they joined the CHL... like Carlson, Loktionov, Voynov and Jeremy Morin... they were able to go to the AHL as teenagers whenever. |
